GSG-16 22 LR Black 22 Round Carbine – Rugged 16.25 in. Rimfire

Description

The GSG-16 22 LR Black 22 Round Carbine from German Sport Guns gives you the look and handling of a modern tactical carbine in an inexpensive 22 LR package. It ships with a 22-round magazine, so you spend more time shooting and less time reloading.

GSG-16 22 LR Black 22 Round Carbine Overview

The GSG-16 is a blowback-operated rimfire built to mimic the styling of popular 416-pattern centerfire carbines. Its barrel measures about 16.25 inches including the permanently attached muzzle shroud, which keeps it a standard rifle under federal law. The collapsible stock adjusts overall length from roughly 28.5 to 34.25 inches and hides a compartment for spare magazine storage. At about 5.84 pounds unloaded, the carbine has enough heft to feel like a real training rifle but is still easy for younger or smaller shooters to hold on target.

Controls and Sights

German Sport Guns gives the GSG-16 an ambidextrous charging handle and an ambidextrous safety, so left-handed shooters are not left out. Adjustable flip-up sights come standard, and the full-length Picatinny rail accepts a red dot or a rimfire scope. The trigger breaks around 5.5 pounds, which is typical for a semi-auto rimfire and fine for plinking and practice drills.

Ammunition and Magazines

GSG recommends high velocity ammunition, roughly 1,260 feet per second, for reliable cycling. Standard velocity and subsonic loads may not run the blowback action consistently. The included 22-round magazine is also compatible with GSG-5 and GSG-522 stick and rotary magazines, which makes spares easy to find. Rimfire rifles run dirty, so expect to clean the bolt and chamber more often than you would on a centerfire carbine.

Choosing Ammunition

Every rifle has preferences, so try a few brands and bullet weights to see which groups best in yours. Match the bullet to your purpose, and zero with the exact load you plan to use. Record your point of impact at several distances so you know your holdover.

Optics and Setup

Choose an optic that fits the job, mount it with quality rings or a solid mount torqued to specification, and confirm your zero before relying on the rifle. A sling and a bipod are useful additions for hunting and range work.

Care and Maintenance

Clean the bore after each range session or hunt, wipe metal surfaces with a lightly oiled cloth and check action and mount screws for proper torque. Store the rifle in a dry place and use a padded case for travel.

Spec Note

American Tactical, the GSG-16 importer, lists the barrel at 16.25 inches measured with the permanently attached faux suppressor shroud. Some distributor records round this to 16.5 inches. The rifle is legal as sold.

Shooting Fundamentals

Accuracy comes from consistent fundamentals: a stable position, natural point of aim, controlled breathing and a smooth trigger press. Practice from a bench to confirm your zero, then from field positions such as sitting, kneeling and prone with a sling or bipod.

Recommended Accessories

Plan on a quality optic and rings or mount, a sling, eye and ear protection and a cleaning kit. A bipod or shooting sticks help with long shots, and a padded case protects your investment during travel.
