HEVI-Shot Steel 12ga 3in 2 Shot – Proven Waterfowl Shotshells

Description

The HEVI-Shot Steel 12ga 3in 2 Shot shell, item HS60002, is a 12 gauge, 3 inch waterfowl load with 1 1/4 oz of #2 steel shot at a rated 1500 fps. It comes 25 rounds per box from HEVI-Shot, the Oregon maker known for dense, non-toxic hunting loads.

HEVI-Shot Steel 12ga 3in 2 Shot Overview

HEVI-Steel is the company’s premium steel waterfowl line. It is built around hard, round steel pellets loaded at high velocity, which is how steel makes up for being lighter than lead. Faster pellets carry more energy into the decoys, and a waterfowl-specific wad protects the barrel and keeps the shot column together. For hunters who want dependable non-toxic performance at a sensible cost per shell, it is a practical everyday duck and goose load.

How HEVI-Steel Works

Steel shot is about 7.8 grams per cubic centimeter, roughly 30 percent lighter than lead, so it loses energy faster downrange. HEVI-Steel answers that with speed and pellet quality. Uniform, round pellets fly truer than misshapen ones, and a high muzzle velocity keeps energy up at normal decoy distances. Because steel is hard, the pellets do not deform in the barrel, which helps produce consistent, even patterns.

Shot Size and Game

#2 is a popular all-round waterfowl size, with enough energy for geese at decoy range and big ducks such as mallards. This load is a good everyday choice for mallards and geese at decoy range. Pattern your gun with this load before the season, because every barrel and choke combination reacts a little differently.

Choke and Barrel Notes

Steel and blended loads pattern tighter than lead through a given choke, so most makers suggest improved cylinder or modified chokes. Some older barrels and full chokes are not rated for steel, so check your gun manual or choke markings, and never fire steel through a choke marked lead only.

Chamber and Recoil

Fire this shell only in 12 gauge shotguns chambered for 3 inch shells or longer. Never use it in a gun with a shorter chamber. Expect recoil in line with other hunting loads of this gauge and payload. A well-fitted gun, a good recoil pad and proper mount make long days in the field more comfortable.

Regulations

Federal rules require non-toxic shot for migratory waterfowl hunting across the United States, and this load meets that requirement. Many states also require non-toxic shot on certain public lands and refuges for other game. Always check your state regulations, bag limits and any plug requirements before you hunt.

Patterning Tips

Before the season, shoot this load at a large paper target from the distance you expect to hunt. Count how many pellets land in a 30 inch circle and look for gaps that a bird could slip through. Try more than one choke if you can, and note where the center of the pattern lands compared with your point of aim. A few shells spent at the range build real confidence in the field.

About HEVI-Shot

HEVI-Shot is an American ammunition company based in Oregon that helped pioneer dense, non-toxic shot. Its lineup covers waterfowl, upland, turkey and predator loads in steel, bismuth, blended and tungsten-based shot, all built for hunters who need non-toxic shot that still performs.

Storage and Care

Store shotshells in a cool, dry place in their original boxes. Shells used in the field often get wet; let them dry before storing, and discard any with swollen or damaged hulls.
