HEVI-Shot Hammer 12ga Magnum 2 Shot Overview
HEVI-Hammer blends two non-toxic materials in one shell. A top layer of bismuth pellets, about 15 percent of the charge, sits over steel pellets of the same size, which make up the other 85 percent. The bismuth layer leaves the muzzle first and, according to HEVI-Shot, hits about 50 percent harder than the steel at 40 yards. The result is a load that costs less than straight bismuth but adds punch to a steel pattern.
How HEVI-Hammer Works
Bismuth is about 22 percent denser than steel, so a bismuth pellet carries more energy downrange than a steel pellet of the same size. HEVI-Hammer takes advantage of that by layering bismuth on top of steel. The steel provides most of the pellet count, while the denser bismuth pellets add penetration on birds that the steel alone might only wound. Both materials are non-toxic and legal for waterfowl.
Shot Size and Game
#2 is a popular all-round waterfowl size, with enough energy for geese at decoy range and big ducks such as mallards. #2 handles geese at decoy range and big ducks a little farther out, and the denser bismuth pellets add punch to the pattern. Choke and Barrel Notes

Chamber and Recoil
