HEVI-Shot Metal Long Range 12ga 4 Shot – Proven Waterfowl Shotshells

Description

The HEVI-Shot Metal Long Range 12ga 4 Shot shell, item HS38704, is a 12 gauge, 2-3/4 inch waterfowl load with 1 1/8 oz of #4 HEVI-Shot and steel shot. It comes 25 rounds per box from HEVI-Shot, the Oregon maker known for dense, non-toxic hunting loads.

HEVI-Shot Metal Long Range 12ga 4 Shot Overview

HEVI-Metal Longer Range combines dense HEVI-Shot pellets with steel in one shell, and pairs them with a wad built to hold the shot column together farther downrange. The idea is to give waterfowlers tighter patterns and more pellet energy at the edge of normal shooting range than a plain steel load can offer, while staying fully non-toxic and legal for ducks and geese.

How HEVI-Metal Longer Range Works

HEVI-Shot pellets are a tungsten-based alloy that is denser than lead, so they keep their energy far better than steel. HEVI-Metal layers those dense pellets with steel to raise the energy of the whole pattern at a lower cost than straight tungsten. The Longer Range wad is designed to keep pellets together longer after they leave the muzzle, which helps patterns stay dense at extended distances.

Shot Size and Game

#4 is a smaller size with a high pellet count for ducks over decoys and other medium-sized birds. #4 suits ducks over decoys and passing shots at moderate range, and the dense pellets add energy at the outer edge of the pattern. Pattern your gun with this load before the season, because every barrel and choke combination reacts a little differently.

Choke and Barrel Notes

Steel and blended loads pattern tighter than lead through a given choke, so most makers suggest improved cylinder or modified chokes. Some older barrels and full chokes are not rated for steel, so check your gun manual or choke markings, and never fire steel through a choke marked lead only.

Chamber and Recoil

Fire this shell only in 12 gauge shotguns chambered for 2-3/4 inch shells or longer. Never use it in a gun with a shorter chamber. Expect recoil in line with other hunting loads of this gauge and payload. A well-fitted gun, a good recoil pad and proper mount make long days in the field more comfortable.

Regulations

Federal rules require non-toxic shot for migratory waterfowl hunting across the United States, and this load meets that requirement. Many states also require non-toxic shot on certain public lands and refuges for other game. Always check your state regulations, bag limits and any plug requirements before you hunt.

Patterning Tips

Before the season, shoot this load at a large paper target from the distance you expect to hunt. Count how many pellets land in a 30 inch circle and look for gaps that a bird could slip through. Try more than one choke if you can, and note where the center of the pattern lands compared with your point of aim. A few shells spent at the range build real confidence in the field.

About HEVI-Shot

HEVI-Shot is an American ammunition company based in Oregon that helped pioneer dense, non-toxic shot. Its lineup covers waterfowl, upland, turkey and predator loads in steel, bismuth, blended and tungsten-based shot, all built for hunters who need non-toxic shot that still performs.

Storage and Care

Store shotshells in a cool, dry place in their original boxes. Shells used in the field often get wet; let them dry before storing, and discard any with swollen or damaged hulls.
