Description
The GSG Firefly 22LR OD Green Threaded pistol brings a military-inspired olive drab finish to the full-size Firefly, with a 4.9-inch threaded barrel, a 13-round magazine and a smooth double/single action trigger in inexpensive 22 LR.
GSG Firefly 22LR OD Green Threaded Overview
German Sport Guns manufactures the Firefly in Germany and American Tactical handles import and support. This green version is factory model GERG2213TFFGA. It shares the current generation features: a 4.9-inch barrel threaded 9×0.75mm with a 1/2×28 adapter supplied, an adjustable rear sight, an ambidextrous manual safety, serrations on the slide and an accessory rail on the frame. It weighs about 24.6 ounces unloaded, and the grip is sized like a full-size service pistol, so adults with larger hands will find it comfortable while smaller shooters may prefer a compact 22.
Why OD Green
Green pistols have a classic field look and pair well with outdoor gear. The finish hides dust and light scratches better than bright colors, though carbon and solvent stains can show at the muzzle. Wipe it down after each range trip and avoid aggressive chemical cleaners that can fade applied coatings.
Woods and Backyard Range Use
A 22 pistol is the classic companion for informal shooting at tin cans, spinners and reactive targets on private land, and the Firefly fits that role well. The 13-round magazine means less time reloading, and the adjustable rear sight lets you match point of impact to your favorite load. Always confirm a safe backstop, since 22 LR can travel more than a mile.
Threaded Barrel Facts
The barrel threads are metric, and the included adapter brings them to 1/2×28 for common rimfire accessories. If you plan to add a suppressor, it is an NFA item that requires an approved ATF Form 4 and must be legal in your state. Expect to need taller sights to see over most cans.
Reliability Tips
The pistol prefers high-velocity round-nose ammunition, and many owners report it becomes smoother after a few hundred rounds. Subsonic or light target loads may not lock the slide back on the last round. Keep the chamber, extractor and breech face clean; 22 LR leaves more residue than most centerfire rounds.
Trade-Offs Worth Knowing
To keep the price low, GSG uses zinc alloy for the frame and slide. That is adequate for rimfire pressures, but use a snap cap for dry practice and expect less long-term durability than a steel pistol. Holster choice is narrower than for major centerfire models, and resale value is modest.
State Laws and Ownership
Rules on threaded barrels, magazine capacity and handgun rosters vary by state. Some states will not allow this configuration at all. Check your state and local requirements before you order.
