Grizzly 470 Nitro 500gr Solid – Rugged Dangerous Game Ammo

Description

The Grizzly 470 Nitro 500gr Solid load, item GC47NE2, is a 5 round box of 470 Nitro Express ammunition from Grizzly Cartridge Company, loaded with a 500 grain solid bullet rated at 2150 fps with 5131 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. Grizzly recommends it for safari hunting and big game.

Grizzly 470 Nitro 500gr Solid Overview

For elephant and for stopping a charging buffalo, professional hunters have relied on 500 grain solids in the 470 Nitro Express for more than a century. This Grizzly load fires a 500 grain solid at a rated 2150 fps with 5131 foot-pounds of energy, the traditional ballistics most 470 double rifles are regulated for. The non-expanding bullet is designed for maximum straight-line penetration through the heaviest bone and muscle, making it the classic second barrel load behind an expanding first shot.

Bullet Design

A solid is a non-expanding, homogeneous metal bullet built for the largest dangerous game, such as elephant, Cape buffalo and hippo. It is designed to hold its shape and drive in a straight line through heavy bone and thick muscle, which is exactly what is needed for frontal brain shots and follow-up shots on dangerous animals. In a double rifle, many hunters load an expanding bullet in the first barrel and a solid in the second.

Intended Use

Grizzly recommends this load for safari hunting and big game. Solids are intended for elephant, hippo, Cape buffalo follow-up shots and other situations where maximum penetration is required. For first shots on buffalo and lion, an expanding bullet such as the Grizzly 470 Nitro 500 grain TSX is often preferred. Always confirm legal requirements with your outfitter.

Firearm Compatibility

This ammunition is made for double rifles and bolt-action rifles chambered in 470 Nitro Express. Double rifles are regulated to shoot a specific load to the same point of aim from both barrels, so confirm regulation with this ammunition before a hunt. Do not fire it in a 470 Capstick, 475 Nitro Express or any other chambering.

Grizzly Cartridge Company

Grizzly Cartridge Company is an American ammunition maker known for heavy, hard-hitting loads for hunters, outdoorsmen and handgunners who carry in bear country, along with cowboy action, defense and safari ammunition. Its loads are made in the USA, and many are built to run at the upper end of what each cartridge allows, so always match the load to your firearm.

Recoil and Shootability

The 470 Nitro Express produces very heavy recoil, which is why rifles in this chambering are heavy and carefully stocked. Practice with both barrels from shooting sticks before your hunt.

Practice and Testing

Fire enough rounds through your own rifle before a hunt to confirm reliable function and to check where this load prints at the distances you expect to shoot. With a double rifle, confirm that both barrels regulate to the same point of aim. Practice from shooting sticks and field positions, since dangerous game shots are often taken quickly at close range.

Storage and Care

Store ammunition in a cool, dry place in its original box, away from solvents and lubricants that can contaminate primers. Inspect rounds for dents, loose bullets or corrosion before loading, and carry spare rounds in a cartridge belt or holder that protects them from dust and moisture.
