Description
The Grizzly 45-70 +P 350gr Kodiak Bonded FP load, item GC45/70+P3, is a 20 round box of 45-70 Government +P ammunition from Grizzly Cartridge Company, loaded with a 350 grain Kodiak bonded flat point bullet rated at 2150 fps with 3592 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. Grizzly recommends it for hunting deer, bear, elk and bison.
Grizzly 45-70 +P 350gr Kodiak Bonded FP Overview
This is the fastest of the Grizzly +P 45-70 loads, driving a 350 grain Kodiak bonded flat point to a rated 2150 fps with 3592 foot-pounds of energy. That speed gives the old cartridge a noticeably flatter trajectory and longer practical range than traditional 405 grain loads, while the bonded bullet expands and holds together for deep penetration. It is a versatile choice for elk, moose and black bear, and it remains well suited to deer in heavy cover where a lever-action 45-70 shines.
Bullet Design
The Kodiak bonded flat point bonds the jacket to the lead core so the bullet holds together as it expands, retaining weight for deep penetration on large game. The flat nose is safe in the tubular magazines of lever-action rifles, and the bonded construction allows it to be driven to high speed without coming apart on impact.
Intended Use
Grizzly recommends this load for hunting deer, bear, elk and bison. It is one of the best all-around 45-70 choices for hunters who want expansion along with deep penetration. For the largest bears and bison at close range, Grizzly also offers heavier hard cast and Bonebreaker loads. Confirm your rifle is rated for +P ammunition before use.
Firearm Compatibility
This ammunition is loaded to +P pressure and is made only for strong, modern rifles chambered in 45-70 Government, such as the Marlin 1895, Henry and Rossi lever actions, Browning and Winchester 1886 reproductions, and Ruger No. 1 single shots. Never fire +P 45-70 loads in a Trapdoor Springfield, original antique rifles, replica rolling blocks or any rifle not rated for high-pressure 45-70 ammunition.
Grizzly Cartridge Company
Grizzly Cartridge Company is an American ammunition maker known for heavy, hard-hitting loads for hunters, outdoorsmen and handgunners who carry in bear country, along with cowboy action, defense and safari ammunition. Its loads are made in the USA, and many are built to run at the upper end of what each cartridge allows, so always match the load to your firearm.
Recoil and Shootability
Fast +P 45-70 loads produce substantial recoil, especially from lightweight lever-action rifles. A good recoil pad, correct stock fit and a firm shoulder mount make a big difference during practice sessions.
Practice and Testing
Fire at least a box through your own rifle before you rely on this load for hunting or protection. Confirm reliable feeding and extraction, and check where it prints at the distances you expect to shoot, since heavy or fast loads often hit to a different point than light practice ammunition.
Storage and Care
Store ammunition in a cool, dry place in its original box, away from solvents and lubricants that can contaminate primers. Inspect rounds for dents, loose bullets or corrosion before loading.
