Grizzly 416 Rem Mag 400gr Solid – Rugged Dangerous Game Ammo

Description

The Grizzly 416 Rem Mag 400gr Solid load, item GC416REM5, is a 5 round box of 416 Remington Magnum ammunition from Grizzly Cartridge Company, loaded with a 400 grain solid bullet rated at 2400 fps with 5115 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. Grizzly recommends it for safari hunting and big game.

Grizzly 416 Rem Mag 400gr Solid Overview

The 416 Remington Magnum brought classic 416 Rigby ballistics to a standard-length magnum action, and it has become a favorite of professional hunters and visiting sportsmen alike. This Grizzly load drives a 400 grain solid to a rated 2400 fps with 5115 foot-pounds of energy, the traditional benchmark for the caliber. Solids are the bullet of choice for Cape buffalo follow-up shots, elephant and other thick-skinned game, where straight-line penetration is essential. Five rounds per box suits the small, carefully managed supply most safari hunters carry.

Bullet Design

A solid is a non-expanding, homogeneous metal bullet built for the largest dangerous game, such as elephant, Cape buffalo and hippo. It is designed to hold its shape and drive in a straight line through heavy bone and thick muscle, which is exactly what is needed for frontal brain shots and follow-up shots on dangerous animals. Many hunters carry solids alongside an expanding load for their first shot.

Intended Use

Grizzly recommends this load for safari hunting and big game. Solids are intended for the toughest dangerous game and for finishing shots, rather than for plains game or thin-skinned animals, where an expanding bullet is a better choice. Many hunters load a soft point or expanding bullet first and solids behind it. Always check the legal minimums for caliber and energy in the country where you hunt.

Firearm Compatibility

This ammunition is made for rifles chambered in 416 Remington Magnum, a belted cartridge built on the 8mm Remington Magnum case for dangerous game. Do not fire it in a 416 Rigby, 416 Ruger or 416 Weatherby rifle.

Grizzly Cartridge Company

Grizzly Cartridge Company is an American ammunition maker known for heavy, hard-hitting loads for hunters, outdoorsmen and handgunners who carry in bear country, along with cowboy action, defense and safari ammunition. Its loads are made in the USA, and many are built to run at the upper end of what each cartridge allows, so always match the load to your firearm.

Recoil and Shootability

A 400 grain bullet from the 416 Remington Magnum produces heavy recoil. A heavy rifle with a good recoil pad, correct stock fit and plenty of practice from field positions help make it manageable.

Practice and Testing

Fire enough rounds through your own rifle before a hunt to confirm reliable feeding and extraction and to check where this load prints at the distances you expect to shoot. Practice from shooting sticks and field positions, not only from the bench, since dangerous game shots are often taken quickly at close range.

Storage and Care

Store ammunition in a cool, dry place in its original box, away from solvents and lubricants that can contaminate primers. Inspect rounds for dents, loose bullets or corrosion before loading, and carry spare rounds in a cartridge holder that protects them from dust and moisture.
