Grand Power X-Calibur Match Mk23 Overview

Grand Power calls the X-Calibur its flagship, and the Mk23 update brought a more aggressive slide design, improved cocking serrations and a more aggressive grip texture. The Match variant adds an all-steel dust cover, which shifts weight forward to reduce muzzle flip and speed up follow-up shots. Like other Grand Power pistols it uses a rotating-barrel locking system and a hammer-fired action. Global Ordnance imports it to the US, where it competes with tuned CZ and Tanfoglio guns at a lower price.

Optics Ready or Iron Sights

The slide is cut for a red dot and Grand Power includes four mounting plates covering Vortex Venom and Docter-pattern sights, Trijicon RMR, C-More STS2 and Shield SMS footprints. If you prefer irons, a micrometric adjustable rear sight can replace the plate. Plates add a little height, so check co-witness before you buy taller sights. The lightening cuts in the slide reduce reciprocating mass and help the dot return to the target quickly.

Steel Dust Cover and Balance

The Match variant’s all-steel dust cover is the key difference from the standard X-Calibur. At about 912 grams, or roughly 32 ounces without a magazine, the pistol is far heavier than a polymer carry gun, and that weight sits ahead of the trigger guard where it resists muzzle rise. The rotating barrel also moves recoil more in line with the bore than a tilting-barrel design. The result is a flat-shooting pistol that suits Limited, Carry Optics-style and steel challenge shooters.

Trigger and Controls

Grand Power describes the trigger as crisp with a short reset, which is what sport shooters want for fast strings. The Mk23 grip texture is aggressive enough to hold during sweaty matches without being painful, and the accessory rail on the frame accepts a light if you want to use the gun for home defense as well. Take time to learn the controls and the double-action first shot before your first match, and practice with dry fire drills to learn the reset.

Competition Use

With 15-round magazines, an optic cut and a heavy dust cover, the X-Calibur Match fits naturally into USPSA Carry Optics or Limited Optics, IDPA and steel matches, subject to each division’s current weight and equipment rules. Check the rulebook before buying for a specific division. Extra magazines, mag pouches and a competition holster that fits the X-Calibur’s frame are the next purchases most owners need, and these are less common than Glock or CZ gear.

Honest Caveats

Grand Power is well respected in Europe but less common in US gun shops, so holsters, magazines and parts can take time to source through Global Ordnance or specialty retailers. Resale value tends to trail CZ and Tanfoglio. At over 2 pounds and nearly 2 inches wide, this is not a carry pistol. Some distributors list the barrel as 4.80 inches while Grand Power lists 121 mm, about 4.76 inches; the difference is rounding. Distributor titles also call this model the X-Calibur CO Mk23 Match.

State Laws and Ownership

The included 15-round magazines are not legal in states that cap capacity at 10 rounds, including California, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Massachusetts, Washington and others, and Colorado and Illinois limit handgun magazines to 15 rounds. California and Massachusetts also maintain handgun rosters, and the X-Calibur is not commonly listed. In Pennsylvania the pistol transfers through a licensed dealer with a background check. Confirm your state and local rules before you order.
