The Grand Power Stribog SP9A3S 5in 9mm is the short, compact member of the roller-delayed Stribog family. It pairs a roughly 5-inch threaded barrel with a shortened upper, an SB Tactical folding brace and Stribog 30-round magazines, in black. It is made in Slovakia by Grand Power and imported by Global Ordnance.

Grand Power Stribog SP9A3S 5in 9mm Overview

The S stands for short. Grand Power cut the barrel and upper receiver of the SP9A3 down to build a Stribog that fits in a backpack, a small vehicle safe or a compact range case. It keeps the A3 roller-delayed action, the full-length top rail, ambidextrous safety and magazine release, the non-reciprocating charging handle and the AR-style grip and trigger. Distributors list the barrel at 5 inches; Grand Power lists the short Stribog barrel at about 114 mm, so the exact figure depends on the source.

Compact Size, Same Magazines

Even with the shorter upper, the SP9A3S feeds from the same translucent Stribog 9mm magazines as the SP9A1 and SP9A3, in 10, 20 and 30 round sizes. That makes it a natural second gun for owners of a full-size Stribog. Note that Grand Power also makes a Glock-magazine short model; this one uses standard Stribog magazines, not Glock magazines.

What the Short Barrel Costs You

A barrel around 5 inches gives up velocity compared with the 8-inch Stribogs, and muzzle blast and flash are noticeably stronger. For the indoor and close-range uses this gun targets, that trade-off is reasonable, but quality hearing protection is a must. A suppressor greatly reduces the blast and makes the overall package only slightly longer than an 8-inch gun without one. The barrel is threaded 1/2×28 with a thread protector.

Roller-Delayed Recoil Control

Short, light pistol-caliber guns can feel snappy, and the roller-delayed action is what keeps this one manageable. It delays bolt travel so the recoil impulse is softer and the dot returns to the target faster than a blowback gun of the same size. The SB Tactical brace adds a third point of contact and folds to the side for storage.

Brace and Legal Status

The 2023 ATF rule that reclassified many braced pistols was vacated by federal courts in 2024, but brace regulation has changed repeatedly and some states set their own rules, so stay current before traveling with the gun. Do not add a vertical foregrip, which can make a pistol an NFA item; an angled grip or handstop is the usual choice. Our old store title called this a submachine pistol; it is a semi-automatic pistol.

Honest Caveats

Short-barrel 9mm pistols are loud, and the compact handguard leaves less room for lights and grips. Stribog magazines and parts are less common than Glock items and service usually goes through the importer. Resale value for a specialty import is less predictable. Suppressors are NFA items that require an approved ATF Form 4 and state legality.

State Laws and Ownership

Braced pistols with threaded barrels and magazines outside the grip are banned or restricted in California, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Illinois, Washington, Colorado and Delaware, along with magazine limits in most of those states. Pennsylvania has no assault weapon ban, and handgun sales go through a licensed dealer with a background check. Confirm state and local rules before ordering.
