Description
The Fusion Firearms NCOM-D 9mm is a compact-slide, full-grip 1911 from Fusion’s Freedom Series. It pairs a 3.25-inch Defender slide with a full-size Commander frame that carries an accessory rail, giving you a short, quick-handling barrel with a grip long enough for a full firing hand and 10 rounds of 9mm.

Fusion Firearms NCOM-D 9mm Overview
Fusion Firearms, a Venice, Florida 1911 specialist, builds the NCOM-D with an all-steel, no-plastic construction. The frame, slide and barrel are CNC machined from bar stock and then fitted by a gunsmith. The barrel is a target-crowned chrome-moly bull barrel with HD chrome and a 1-in-16 twist, and the slide wears front and rear cocking serrations, top serrations and a press-check cut. The black oxide finish is set off by red cocobolo grips. Unloaded, the pistol weighs about 32.8 ounces.
Short Slide, Full Grip
Pairing a short slide with a Commander-length frame is a popular carry formula. The short barrel clears the holster quickly and rides comfortably inside the waistband, while the longer grip gives better control and room for a 10-round 9mm magazine. The rounded butt on the frame and mainspring housing helps it print less under a shirt. The trade-off is that the grip is the hardest part of any pistol to conceal, so it carries larger than an Officer-size 1911.
Accessory Rail Uses
The tactical rail lets you add a weapon light or laser, which makes the NCOM-D a more practical home-defense pistol than a rail-less carry gun. Keep in mind that a light adds bulk, and holsters for railed short-slide 1911s are less common than for full-size Government models, so confirm holster fit before buying.
Classic 1911 Design Details
The NCOM-D follows the original Series 70 Colt layout, meaning it has no firing pin block. That gives a cleaner trigger pull, but it means you rely on an inertia firing pin, a lightweight spring and proper carry practice; some buyers and some state rosters prefer Series 80 designs. Other features include a commander ring hammer, beavertail grip safety, extended combat thumb safety, beveled magazine well, a lowered and relieved ejection port and a tuned power-style extractor.
Bull Barrel and Takedown
Short 1911s use a bull barrel and reverse plug guide rod instead of a barrel bushing. That design improves lockup on a short slide, but disassembly differs from a standard 1911, so read the manual before the first cleaning. A 3.25-inch 9mm barrel also produces less velocity than a 5-inch barrel, so choose defensive loads tested in short barrels.
Ownership Tips
Black oxide looks classic but offers less corrosion resistance than nitride or stainless, so keep the pistol lightly oiled, especially if carried against the body. Like most 1911s, it can be magazine sensitive, so test any spare magazines before trusting them. Standard dovetail, Novak-compatible sight cuts make sight upgrades simple. Fusion backs its pistols with a limited lifetime warranty.
State Laws and Ownership
Some states maintain handgun rosters or require specific safety features, and a 1911 without a firing pin block may not be on them. Capacity is 10 rounds, which meets most state limits, but check your state and local laws and confirm with your receiving FFL before ordering.
