Non Toxic Shot Without the Premium Price

More public hunting areas now require non lead shot, even for upland birds. Federal Upland Steel answers that need with quality steel payloads and high velocities that make the most of steel’s lighter weight. Higher speed helps pellets carry energy to the bird and reduces the lead needed on crossing shots.

#4 steel is a larger size for upland hunting, a smart choice for pheasants and bigger birds. Because steel is lighter than lead, many hunters go up one or two shot sizes compared with lead to keep pellet energy up. A 1 1/8 ounce payload still provides plenty of pellets for a solid pattern.

Federal designed these shells for fast paced, high volume hunts, with reliable primers and consistent velocities. That makes them practical for dove openers on steel only fields and for full days of walking up pheasants on public land.

Field Notes and Upland Tips

Use Federal Upland Steel 12ga 4 Shot shells for pheasants, sharp tailed grouse and other larger upland birds on lands that require non toxic shot. For doves and smaller birds, a smaller steel size such as #6 or #7 is usually a better fit.

Steel patterns tighter than lead. An improved cylinder or modified steel rated choke works well for most upland shots. Pattern your gun at 30 and 35 yards to confirm.

Confirm that your shotgun and chokes are rated for steel shot, especially if you hunt with an older gun.

Wear blaze orange where required, keep track of dogs and hunting partners, and unload when crossing fences or obstacles.

If you hunt pheasants or other upland birds where steel is required and want an affordable, reliable load, Federal Upland Steel 12ga 4 Shot shells are a proven choice. Pair them with a comfortable shell pouch for long walks in the field.

Late season pheasants are tough birds that often flush wild at the edge of range. Larger #4 steel pellets carry more energy to those longer shots, helping bring birds down cleanly. With Federal Upland Steel 12ga 4 Shot shells in your vest, you are ready for the challenging shots that come in cold weather and heavy cover.

After a hunt, wipe down your shotgun and let it dry fully before storing it. Moisture from snow and wet grass can cause rust quickly, especially on steel choke tubes.

Public land hunters often face non toxic shot rules on wildlife management areas and waterfowl production areas that also hold good pheasant cover. Carrying Federal Upland Steel 12ga 4 Shot shells means you can hunt those areas legally and effectively without switching to expensive specialty loads.
