Tight Patterns for Home Defense
Federal designed this load around one goal: keeping buckshot patterns tight at the distances found inside a home. The rear-braking FLITECONTROL wad holds the pellets together after they leave the muzzle, then releases them for dense, consistent patterns.
Copper-plated pellets resist deformation, and a buffering material inside the shell cushions them during firing. Round pellets fly truer, which helps keep more of the pattern where you are aiming.
Federal says the payload is built to deliver penetration tuned to the needs of self-defense situations, giving you a dedicated defensive load rather than a hunting shell pressed into service.

Home Defense Shotgun Tips
Use Federal Personal Defense 12ga 00 Buckshot only in shotguns chambered for 2-3/4 inch or longer 12 gauge shells.
Pattern your shotgun with this load at realistic in-home distances, such as 5, 10 and 15 yards.
Think about what lies beyond your target. Buckshot can pass through interior walls, so plan your defensive positions carefully.
Store your defensive shotgun securely, and check your local laws on firearm storage.
Federal Personal Defense 12ga 00 Buckshot ammo is a dependable choice for homeowners who keep a 12 gauge for defense.
Double-aught (00) buckshot is one of the most familiar defensive loads. Nine pellets per shell give Federal Personal Defense 12ga 00 Buckshot loads a strong balance of pellet count and energy at close range.
A tighter pattern matters inside a home. With a FLITECONTROL wad keeping the shot column together, more pellets stay inside a smaller circle at across-the-room distances, which helps you put every pellet where you intend.
Practice with your defensive load, not just cheaper target shells. Knowing how Federal Personal Defense 12ga 00 Buckshot shells recoil and pattern in your own shotgun builds confidence.
Shotgun choke makes a big difference with buckshot. Many shotguns pattern buckshot well through an improved cylinder or modified choke, but some guns surprise you, so test a few options before settling on one. Shoot at a large paper target at 10, 15 and 25 yards and count the hits inside a vital-sized circle.
Hunters going after hogs or deer in thick cover appreciate how quickly a pump or semi-auto loaded with Federal Personal Defense 12ga 00 Buckshot shells can deliver follow-up shots. Practice working the action from your shoulder so the gun stays on target between shots.
Keep a few Federal Personal Defense 12ga 00 Buckshot rounds in a shell carrier or sidesaddle on your shotgun so a reload is always within reach, whether you are in a deer stand or at home.
Keep a few spare Federal Personal Defense 12ga 00 Buckshot rounds in a shell carrier on the gun so a reload is always within reach, and check your defensive ammunition periodically for dented or damaged hulls.
