- Suited to competition and long-range practice
Buying ammunition by the box from the same production lot keeps velocity and point of impact consistent from one range trip to the next. Keep a record of the load you carry, check your ammunition for dents or loose bullets from time to time, and rotate your carry rounds so the ones in your firearm stay fresh. These simple habits help you get the full performance Federal builds into every cartridge.
Before you trust any new load, fire enough rounds through your firearm to confirm it feeds, fires and ejects reliably and that the point of impact matches your sights. Full-power loads produce more recoil and muzzle blast than typical range ammo, so practice with the Federal 224 Valkyrie 90gr Sierra MatchKing until you are comfortable with it, and store the rest in a cool, dry place in the original box.
The 224 Valkyrie was introduced by Federal in 2017 to give AR-15 owners a long-range cartridge that fits the standard lower receiver. It is based on the 6.8 SPC case necked down to .22 caliber and drives long, heavy bullets that stay supersonic past 1000 yards, making it popular for long-range target shooting and competition.
