Description
The EAA Girsan Influencer X 38 Super chambers one of the most storied competition cartridges in a modern, optics-ready Government-size 1911. A tungsten Cerakote steel frame, black lightening-cut slide, full-length dust cover rail and 9+1 capacity make it a distinctive way to get into 38 Super.
EAA Girsan Influencer X 38 Super Overview
Girsan builds the Influencer X in Turkey for EAA, which imports it and supports it in the United States. This version keeps the 5-inch barrel and 8.75-inch overall length of a classic Government model, but the slide is cut for a red dot and lightened with windows up front. The frame carries a full-length accessory rail, an extended beavertail and an ambidextrous thumb safety. EAA describes the trigger as tuned, and the high-texture grips lock in the hand during fast strings. Weight is roughly 2.55 pounds unloaded, which keeps muzzle movement low.
Why 38 Super
The 38 Super launched in 1929 and became a favorite of practical shooting competitors for decades because it delivers 9mm-like recoil with more velocity, and it runs reliably in a full-length 1911 magazine. In a heavy steel gun it shoots remarkably flat. The trade-off is availability: 38 Super ammunition is a specialty item, it costs noticeably more than 9mm, and shelves can go empty for weeks. Many owners eventually turn to handloaders or start reloading themselves to keep practice affordable.
Optics Ready Slide
The slide is cut to accept micro red dots on the RMSc footprint, a pattern shared by many compact pistol optics. A dot speeds target acquisition and helps aging eyes, but mount it with proper screw length and thread locker, and confirm the iron sights still co-witness if you want a backup. Shooters who prefer irons can run the included tactical sights alone.
Full Rail and Lightening Cuts
The full-length rail adds weight forward, which settles the muzzle, and gives plenty of room for a weapon light. Lightening cuts in the front of the slide reduce reciprocating mass for a quicker cycle. Note that the extended rail means most standard 1911 holsters will not fit; look for Government models with a full dust cover or light-bearing kydex.
Range Manners
Expect a soft push rather than snap, fast sight recovery, and a crisp single-action break. The 9-round magazine gives an extra round over a typical 45 ACP 1911. 38 Super headspaces on the case mouth in most modern barrels, but some loads are more consistent than others, so test a few brands for accuracy and feeding before settling on one.
Honest Trade-Offs
Ammunition cost and availability are the biggest drawbacks of this caliber. Spare 38 Super magazines are less common than 45 or 9mm, so order extras when you find them. Girsan offers excellent features for the money, though resale value and aftermarket support trail established American 1911 makers.
State Laws and Ownership
A 9-round magazine stays under most state capacity limits, but this pistol is not on the California handgun roster, and Massachusetts maintains its own approved list. Some jurisdictions restrict ammunition purchases or require permits to buy a handgun. Pennsylvania residents can buy through any licensed dealer with the standard background check. Verify your local laws before ordering.
