EAA Balikli Blue Label 12 Gauge 28 in Overview
The Blue Label is built in Turkey by Balikli and brought in by European American Armory. It aims to give you the look and feel of a classic field over and under, with walnut, engraving and a Schnabel forend, at a price far below the big name guns. It is light enough to carry all day in the uplands.
Receiver and Engraving
The receiver is aluminum to keep weight down, with a steel insert at the rear of the action for durability where the barrels lock up. It carries pheasant engraving on the sides. Aluminum receivers wear faster than steel under very high round counts, so this is best as a field gun and occasional clays gun rather than a high volume competition gun.
Barrels, Rib and Sights
The 28 inch barrels are back bored and joined by a skeletonized mid rib, with a ventilated, serrated top rib to cut glare. A red fiber optic front sight is quick to pick up. Reviewers report close to a 50/50 point of impact.
Chokes
Five Mobil pattern choke tubes come in the box: Skeet, Improved Cylinder, Modified, Improved Modified and Full. Mobil chokes are widely available, so extra tubes are easy to find.
Trigger, Safety and Extractors
The Blue Label uses mechanical triggers rather than inertia triggers, so the second barrel will fire even if the first shell fails. The manual safety on the tang doubles as the barrel selector. Shells are lifted by extractors rather than ejectors, so you pluck fired hulls out by hand, which is handy if you reload or hunt where you pick up your empties.
Turkish Walnut Stock
The stock and Schnabel forend are Turkish walnut with checkering, and EAA lists a 14.5 inch length of pull. Wood grain varies from gun to gun.
The 12 gauge
The 12 gauge is the most versatile choice, from light target loads to heavy pheasant loads.
Where It Fits
The Blue Label is aimed at hunters who want a handsome, light over and under for upland birds, doves and casual clays without spending a fortune. It also makes a nice first double gun.
State Laws
Over and under shotguns are legal in every state, though hunting rules on shot type and gauge vary. Pennsylvania buyers can transfer at our Collegeville shop or at any FFL.
