Description
The Diamondback Carbon DB15 pistol in 300 AAC Blackout packs a 10 inch threaded barrel, a 9 inch M-LOK handguard and an SB Tactical SBA3 brace into a compact AR in Flat Dark Earth Cerakote. It is built for home defense, truck carry and suppressed shooting.
Diamondback DB15 Pistol 300 BLK FDE Overview
Diamondback Firearms builds its DB15 line in Cocoa, Florida, and the Carbon series pistol uses forged 7075-T6 aluminum receivers, a 1-in-8 twist barrel threaded 5/8×24, and a free-float PC M-LOK rail. Model DB1916B061 measures 26 to 28.5 inches long depending on brace position and weighs about 5.7 pounds empty. It ships with one 30 round PMAG and no sights, so plan on adding a red dot or backup irons before you take it to the range.
Why 300 Blackout
The 300 Blackout round was designed to deliver 30 caliber performance from a short AR barrel while using standard AR-15 magazines, bolts and lower receivers. Supersonic 110 to 125 grain loads hit harder than 5.56 at short range, and heavy subsonic ammunition runs very quiet when paired with a suppressor. The catch is cost: 300 Blackout ammo usually costs more per round than 5.56 and is less common on store shelves.
Features and Controls
The SBA3 adjusts through five positions and gives a stable third point of contact. A Magpul MOE grip and mil-spec controls make the layout familiar to anyone who has run an AR-15. The 9 inch handguard leaves room for a light and a vertical grip or handstop, though adding a vertical foregrip to a pistol has its own legal issues under federal rules, so research before you bolt one on.
Suppressor Ready
The 5/8×24 threads accept most 30 caliber muzzle devices and suppressors. Suppressors are NFA items that require an approved ATF Form 4, a tax stamp and a wait, and they are banned in some states. Shoot only subsonic loads in a gun that has been verified to cycle them, since some short-barrel 300 Blackout pistols need a specific gas setup to run quiet ammunition reliably.
Shooting Experience
A 10 inch 300 Blackout barrel is loud and produces noticeable muzzle flash, especially with supersonic ammunition, so hearing protection is a must indoors and out. Recoil is mild for the caliber. Accuracy is suitable for defensive and recreational ranges inside about 200 yards rather than long-range precision work.
Caution With Mixed Calibers
300 Blackout cartridges can chamber in a 5.56 rifle and cause a catastrophic failure. If you own both calibers, mark your 300 Blackout magazines and keep ammunition strictly separated. The Flat Dark Earth Cerakote resists wear, but clean and lightly lube the bolt carrier group after each range trip.
State Laws and Ownership
AR pistols with braces face shifting rules. The ATF’s 2023 brace rule was vacated by federal courts, but some states ban or restrict AR pistols, threaded barrels, braces or 30 round magazines outright. Confirm your own state and local laws before ordering, and keep up with any new federal rulemaking.
