Description

The Derya DY9Z Blue 9mm is the blue framed build with the standard black slide. Stock on this one is limited, which is worth knowing if the color is the reason you are here rather than a nice extra.

Underneath it is the same pistol as the rest of the DY9Z range: fifteen plus one in a gun an inch and a tenth wide, with the optic cut milled into the slide rather than sold as a plate kit.

What the Derya DY9Z Blue 9mm actually is

  • A striker fired 9mm Luger micro compact holding 15+1 with the supplied metal magazine.
  • A 3.50 inch barrel in a pistol 6.5 inches long, 5 inches tall and 1.10 inches wide, weighing about 20 ounces.
  • A blue polymer frame with an accessory rail, under a black optic ready slide with front and rear serrations.
  • An RMSc footprint cut machined directly into the slide, so a micro red dot mounts without a plate.
  • Three interchangeable backstraps in small, medium and large, supplied in the box.
  • Fixed white dot front and white U-notch rear sights, a firing pin block and an anti-drop trigger block.

What 15+1 in this size actually costs you

  • Nothing is free. The Derya DY9Z Blue 9mm gets its capacity from a magazine that fills the grip, which means the grip is a little longer than the shortest guns in this class.
  • Grip length is the dimension that prints through a shirt when you reach or bend, more than width or barrel length.
  • In exchange you get five more rounds than a typical ten round micro compact, which is a meaningful difference in a gun you may only get one chance with.
  • The 10 round version exists if grip length matters more to you than capacity, and it is the same pistol otherwise.
  • Most people should take the fifteen. The extra grip length on the Derya DY9Z Blue 9mm is under half an inch and the extra rounds are five.

Magazines for the Derya DY9Z Blue 9mm

Derya publishes the DY9Z sheet on its own site if you want the manufacturer view alongside ours: the DY9Z product page carries the same dimensions, trigger and optic cut printed above.

  • The Derya DY9Z fifteen round magazine is the correct full capacity spare and the one the advertised 15+1 is based on.
  • Glock 43X and 48 pattern magazines also drop in. Ten rounds, and cheap enough to buy several for practice.
  • Steel fifteen round conversions such as the Shield Arms S15 are popular in the Glock 43X. Derya does not list them as approved for the DY9Z and using one may affect your warranty, so check with Derya first.
  • For ammunition, CCI Blazer Brass 115 grain 9mm is the clean burning practice default.
  • Stick to sights built around the RMSc footprint. A larger window dot can overhang the short slide and catch on clothing.

Blue, two ways

We list blue twice. This is the version with the standard black slide. The blue with the silver slide is the two tone build, and the difference is entirely cosmetic.

Both take the same magazines, the same holsters and the same sights, so the choice is which one you would rather look at. The Derya DY9Z Blue 9mm on this page is the more restrained of the two if the pistol is going to be carried rather than displayed.

Why the Derya DY9Z Blue 9mm earns its place

  • Fifteen rounds at 1.10 inches wide is the specification that made the micro compact class worth revisiting.
  • A direct RMSc cut takes a micro red dot with no plate and one less set of fasteners to check.
  • Three backstraps means the grip on the Derya DY9Z Blue 9mm can be fitted rather than endured.
  • Glock 43X and 48 magazines drop in, so cheap practice magazines sit alongside the factory one.
  • Compliance note worth knowing: Derya lists the DY9Z as Maryland compliant, and not California or Massachusetts compliant.

The Derya DY9Z Blue 9mm suits the buyer who wants the color and the capacity in the same pistol, and anyone carrying daily who would rather not compromise on rounds. It shares magazines, holsters and parts with every other DY9Z we list.

It is a micro compact and it recoils like one. Spend the ammunition to learn the grip before judging it. Every firearm on this page ships to your chosen FFL for transfer and pickup.

Holsters for the Derya DY9Z Blue 9mm

Order a holster cut for the DY9Z rather than something generic. The pistol has an accessory rail, and a holster that ignores it will either sit loose or refuse to take the gun.

Tell the maker if you are fitting a red dot. Most kydex is formed without clearance above the slide, and an optic will foul a holster that was not made for one.

Inside the waistband at about four o’clock is where most people find a pistol this size disappears. Three o’clock prints more on most builds, and appendix carry works well but is worth learning with an empty gun first.

Whatever position you choose, a proper gun belt matters more than the holster. A twenty ounce pistol on a soft dress belt rotates and sags, and a gun that moves is a gun that gets left at home.

A closing practical note. Stock on the blue frame is limited compared with the earth tones and the black, so if this is the one you want it is worth deciding sooner rather than later.

If it sells through, the two tone blue is the nearest alternative and the mechanical specification of the Derya DY9Z Blue 9mm carries across to it exactly. Nothing about the pistol changes with the finish.
