An integral compensator rather than a bolt-on

• The CZ P-10 C Optic Ready has its compensator machined into the barrel itself and the slide is ported above it, so gas is vented upward through the slide rather than out of a device hanging off the muzzle
• That means the pistol is the same length as a standard P-10 C and fits standard P-10 C holsters. A bolt-on comp usually means buying a new holster with an open muzzle
• Muzzle rise is visibly reduced. On a compact 9mm this shows up as the sights returning faster between shots rather than as less felt recoil in the hand
• The cost is the usual one: it is louder than an unported pistol, and it throws gas and unburnt powder upward. Do not fire it from a close retention position against your body
• Ports foul over time. Dirty or waxed ammunition builds up faster in a ported barrel than in a plain one, so clean it more often

The trigger is the reason people buy these

The CZ P-10 C Optic Ready trigger is the thing owners talk about, and for once the reputation is deserved. It is a short, fairly light striker pull with a clean break and a very short reset – considerably better out of the box than most polymer pistols at any price. If you have only shot the common striker guns, it is worth trying one before you assume they all feel the same.

The rest of the pistol is conventional and well made: nitride finish inside and out, a full-length rail, and a grip texture that holds without being abrasive.

Optic fitment

The slide is cut and ships with a cover plate. Micro red dot footprints are not standardised, so check the pattern of the optic you want against the plates supplied rather than assuming it will fit. A dot sits higher than irons, so plan for suppressor-height sights at the same time if you want a co-witness.

Ammunition

9mm Luger is standardised by SAAMI. A four-inch barrel is the length most defensive loads are designed and tested around, so published velocities apply. For volume practice, Federal Champion 115gr FMJ is the sensible bulk choice – and a ported pistol is a good argument for shooting clean ammunition rather than the dirtiest thing on the shelf.

What else to compare it against

The Glock 19 Gen 6 is the obvious rival at this size and capacity, also optic ready and ambidextrous. For a smaller carry gun with the same round count, the S&W Shield X fits fifteen into a sub-compact frame.
