CZ Custom Shadow 2 9mm Vytal Holosun Overview
The Shadow 2 is one of the most successful production-division pistols ever made, with an all-steel frame, a low bore axis and a long dust cover that soak up recoil. CZ Custom takes it further with trigger work using CZ Custom performance parts for a lighter, crisper single action pull and shorter reset. The VYTAL aluminum grips add weight down low and a thin, grippy profile, and fiber optic sights give a bright front post. At about 46.5 ounces this is a heavy gun by design, which keeps the muzzle flat during fast strings of fire.
Built for Competition
The Shadow 2 platform dominates USPSA Production and Carry Optics and IDPA SSP and CO divisions. Check your division rules for weight, optic and capacity limits before you choose a configuration, since added parts can move a gun into a different division.
Single Action and Double Action
The Shadow 2 is a double action/single action pistol with an ambidextrous manual safety, so many competitors carry it cocked and locked and shoot every shot single action. The CZ Custom trigger work makes that single action pull especially clean.
Magazines
Three 19-round magazines are included. Shadow 2 magazines are widely available, and basepad extensions are common for divisions that allow them. Some states limit magazine capacity, so check your local laws.
Holsters
Because the Shadow 2 has a long full-length dust cover and a large frame, use holsters made specifically for it. Competition holsters such as Safariland and Ghost style rigs are common, and optic-cut holsters are needed with a red dot.
Custom Shop Value
A CZ Custom gun costs more than a stock Shadow 2, but it includes trigger and grip work that would cost hundreds to add later, and it is done by the CZ Custom Shop in Mesquite, Texas.
State Laws
Handgun and magazine laws vary by state. Check your local laws and confirm your dealer can transfer handguns.
Care and Maintenance
Field strip the pistol after each range session, clean the barrel and breech face, and apply a few drops of quality lubricant to the slide rails and barrel hood. Check sight and optic screws periodically and use thread locker when mounting a red dot. Store the handgun unloaded in a locked safe or lockbox away from children.
Choosing Ammunition
Use affordable full metal jacket loads for practice and premium jacketed hollow points for defense. Fire a few hundred rounds, including a couple of boxes of your carry load, to confirm reliable feeding before you depend on it. Use +P ammunition only if the maker approves it for your model.
Recommended Accessories
A quality holster, spare magazines, a weapon light, eye and ear protection and a cleaning kit round out a handgun purchase.
