Who Makes CorBon DPX 300 Blackout 200gr Subsonic

CorBon has built defensive and hunting ammunition for decades, and its DPX line, short for Deep Penetrating X, is one of its signature products. DPX loads use homogeneous solid copper hollow point bullets rather than lead core bullets.

Because the bullet is solid copper, it does not separate into jacket and core. CorBon says DPX bullets are designed to retain essentially all of their weight, even after heavy barriers, for consistent penetration and expansion. That also makes the load lead free at the bullet.

The 300 Blackout is the ideal host for this kind of load. It was designed from the start to work with both supersonic and subsonic ammunition in an AR-15 platform, and subsonic loads like this are where the cartridge really stands out.

At that speed there is no supersonic crack, so with a suppressor you mainly hear the action cycling and the bullet striking the target. That is very different from supersonic ammunition, which stays loud even when suppressed.

The trade-off is trajectory. A 200 grain bullet at subsonic speed drops quickly, so most shooters zero at 50 to 100 yards and keep shots within about 150 yards. Expansion with subsonic bullets is also harder to achieve, which is why CorBon uses a copper hollow point designed for these velocities.

Field Notes

Many 300 Blackout rifles need a suppressor attached, or an adjustable gas block, to cycle subsonic ammunition reliably. Test CorBon DPX 300 Blackout 200gr Subsonic in your rifle both with and without a suppressor before relying on it.

Never chamber this cartridge in a rifle marked 223 Remington or 5.56 NATO. A 300 Blackout round can chamber in a 5.56 rifle, which can cause a catastrophic failure. Mark your magazines clearly.

Subsonic and supersonic loads have very different points of impact. If you use both, record your holds for each, or keep separate rifles or uppers for each type of ammunition.
