The CMMG Dissent Mk4 9mm is one of the most compact 9mm AR pistols on the market. A buffer-tube-free compact action, a 6.5 inch barrel and CMMG’s radial delayed blowback system put the whole gun at 15.7 inches long and 4.6 pounds.
Radial Delayed Blowback
Straight blowback is how almost every 9mm AR works, and it is why they are heavy and harsh. CMMG’s radial delayed blowback uses a rotating bolt to hold the action closed slightly longer, which lets them cut the reciprocating mass dramatically.
The practical result is a 9mm carbine that recoils like a 9mm should rather than like a hammer. It also runs cleaner, because the case is not being pulled out of the chamber while pressure is still high.
CMMG Dissent Mk4 9mm Compact Action
The Dissent platform moves the bolt travel forward into the receiver and eliminates the buffer tube entirely. That is why a pistol with a 6.5 inch barrel measures only 15.7 inches overall, and why the rear of the receiver is a Picatinny adapter rather than a buffer tube.
A left side non-reciprocating charging handle replaces the standard AR handle, so you can clear the gun without breaking your firing grip. The safety is CMMG’s ZEROED unit with a choice of 60 or 90 degree throw.
Barrel, Trigger and Furniture
The barrel is 6.5 inches of 4140 chrome moly in a medium taper with a salt bath nitride finish and a 1:10 twist, threaded 1/2×28 with a ZEROED linear compensator fitted. A linear comp pushes muzzle blast forward rather than sideways, which matters a great deal on a barrel this short.
The handguard is CMMG’s proprietary 5.5 inch M-LOK unit, and the trigger is a ZEROED drop-in single stage. The receiver set pairs a Dissent 9mm 7075-T6 upper with an Mk4 forged 7075-T6 lower, finished in black Cerakote.
Ammunition and Suppressors
Standard 115 and 124 grain practice ammunition runs the action cleanly, and the delayed action is more tolerant of load variation than a straight blowback nine would be. The 1/2×28 muzzle thread is the standard 9mm pitch, so most cans thread on once the linear comp is removed, and 147 grain subsonic loads are the usual suppressed choice.
