The 1886 Kodiak is a Chiappa lever action rifle. Lever guns are fast handling, quick to cycle and easy to carry in thick cover, a classic American design that still works.
Action and Controls
The 1886 Kodiak is a lever action rifle. It holds 4+1 rounds. This is a right hand model.
Barrel
The 18.50 inch barrel. Sights are Fixed Fiber Optic Front/Skinner Rear.
Stock and Fit
The stock is wood with a black rubber coated walnut finish. Check the length of pull against your own fit, especially if you shoot in heavy clothing. Metal surfaces wear Matte Chrome.
Size and Handling
Overall length is 37″. It weighs about 7.80 lbs. A steady rest, a good sling and practice from field positions will help you shoot it well.
Ammo and Practice
Try a few brands and bullet weights to see what groups best in this rifle, then buy enough of that load to practice and hunt with the same ammo.
The 45-70 Government
The 45-70 Government throws big, heavy bullets that hit hard at woods ranges, making it a favorite for bear country and big game.
Deer Hunting and More
This rifle suits deer hunting and, depending on caliber, hogs, black bear and other game. Confirm your zero before the season and know your effective range.
Optics and Accessories
Plan on quality scope rings or mounts, a sling, a hard or soft case and a cleaning kit. A bipod or shooting sticks help a lot for steady shots in the field or at the bench.
Buying Tips
Budget for quality optics or sights, a sling and ammo, and confirm your zero at the distances you expect to shoot.
Care and Value
Clean the bore and action after each range trip or hunt, keep moving parts lightly oiled and wipe the finish after handling. A well kept Chiappa holds its value.
State Laws
Some states limit semi-auto features, magazine capacity and hunting calibers. Check your local law before you buy. Pennsylvania buyers can transfer at our Collegeville shop or at any FFL.
