Browning revived the A5 name with a new inertia action and the squared-back receiver that made John Browning’s original Auto-5 famous. The modern A5 uses the Kinematic Drive system, which cycles from recoil instead of gas, so no fouling enters the action. Browning backs the gun with a 100,000-round or five-year guarantee. Shadow Grass is a classic marsh pattern that blends into cattails, reeds, and flooded grass.
Inertia Action
The inertia system keeps the action clean and runs a wide range of loads reliably. Like any inertia gun, it can be finicky with very light target loads when brand new, so break it in with standard field loads first. Heavy 3.5-inch magnum shells cycle easily but recoil hard in any 12 gauge.
Barrel and Chokes
Browning’s Total Barrel Dynamics combines a back-bored barrel with a lengthened Vector Pro forcing cone for dense, uniform patterns and softer recoil, and the barrel is built for steel shot. Three Invector-DS chokes in Full, Modified, and Improved Cylinder come with the gun. A fiber-optic front sight and ivory mid-bead give a fast sight picture on passing birds.
Loading and Controls
Speed Load Plus sends the first shell loaded into the magazine straight to the chamber, and lets you unload the magazine without cycling every shell through the action. The TurnKey magazine plug comes out without forend disassembly, and the ergonomic bolt latch works easily with gloves.
Fit and Recoil
The composite stock has a vertical grip and adjusts for cast, drop, and length of pull with included shims and spacers. The Inflex II recoil pad directs recoil down and away from your face, which helps when shooting heavy goose loads. At about 7 pounds 3 ounces, the gun is solid without being heavy to carry into the marsh.
Built for Wet Conditions
