Description
The Browning A5 Wicked Wing Realtree Legacy is an inertia-driven 12 gauge semi-auto with a 26-inch barrel and a 3.5-inch chamber, built specifically for waterfowl. It pairs Realtree Legacy camo on the stock with Burnt Bronze Cerakote on the receiver and barrel, so it stands up to mud, rain, and saltwater season after season.
Browning A5 Wicked Wing Realtree Legacy Overview
Browning’s Wicked Wing package takes the modern A5, with its classic humpback receiver and Kinematic Drive inertia system, and adds the features waterfowlers want most: a corrosion-resistant Cerakote finish, extended goose band choke tubes, an oversized bolt release button, and full camo coverage. Because the inertia action cycles from recoil rather than gas, no fouling enters the action. Browning backs the A5 with a 100,000-round or five-year guarantee. Photos on this page show the 28 inch model in the same finish; this gun shares the same look and finish.
Inertia Action
The A5 cycles a wide range of loads, from light teal shells to heavy 3.5-inch goose loads, without adjustment. Like any inertia gun it can be finicky with very light target loads when new, so break it in with standard field loads first. Heavy magnum shells recoil hard in any 12 gauge.
Barrel and Chokes
Browning’s Total Barrel Dynamics combines a back-bored barrel with a lengthened forcing cone for dense, uniform steel shot patterns and softer recoil. Three extended Invector-DS goose band chokes in Full, Modified, and Improved Cylinder are included. A fiber-optic front sight and ivory mid-bead help you swing smoothly on passing birds.
Loading and Controls
Speed Load Plus sends the first shell loaded into the magazine straight to the chamber, and you can unload the magazine without cycling shells through the action. The oversized bolt release button is easy to hit with cold, gloved hands, and the TurnKey magazine plug comes out without forend disassembly.
Fit and Recoil
The composite stock has a vertical grip and textured gripping surfaces, with shims and spacers to adjust cast, drop, and length of pull for heavy coats. The Inflex II recoil pad directs recoil down and away from your face. At about 7 pounds 3 ounces, the gun is easy to carry through the marsh.
Cerakote Protection
Burnt Bronze Cerakote on the receiver and barrel resists rust, scratches, and salt far better than bluing. Even so, rinse the gun with fresh water after brackish hunts and let the action dry fully.
Waterfowl Notes
Use non-toxic shot for ducks and geese as federal migratory bird rules require, and keep the magazine plugged to three shells total. Pattern your load and choke before opening day.
State Laws
Some states set additional rules on magazine capacity or hunting seasons. Check your local regulations, and your receiving FFL dealer can help confirm the gun is legal where you live.
