Description
The Browning 1911-22 Orchid Full Size is the Browning 1911-22 Black Label Full Size Crushed Orchid Cerakote, a 22 LR pistol with a Crushed Orchid Cerakote slide, a 4 1/4 inch steel barrel and a black composite frame. This listing is UPC 023614857587, Browning item 051893490. It weighs about 14 oz and holds 10 rounds in a single stack magazine.
Browning 1911-22 Orchid Full Size Overview
The 1911-22 is built at 85 percent of the size of the original Model 1911, so it has the look, controls and manual of arms of a full size 1911 but fires inexpensive 22 LR ammunition. It is a single action pistol with a grip safety and a thumb safety, which makes it a good way to learn 1911 handling and to practice for a fraction of the cost of centerfire ammo.
85 Percent Scale
Because the frame and slide are scaled down to 85 percent, the grip fits smaller hands well and the pistol is light and easy to carry around the range. The flip side is that standard 1911 holsters and magazines will not fit, so buy holsters and spare magazines made specifically for the 1911-22.
Crushed Orchid Cerakote Slide
The slide wears Crushed Orchid Cerakote, a ceramic based coating that holds up to handling, holster wear and solvents much better than paint. It gives the pistol a distinctive look while the matte black frame and controls keep it from looking flashy.
Black Label Features
The Black Label models use a lightweight composite frame with a beavertail grip safety, serrations on the slide and laminate wood grips.
Sights and Shooting
Browning fits combat style three dot sights with a 5 3/8 inch sight radius. The single action trigger and light recoil make it easy to shoot small groups, and it is a good pistol for teaching new shooters the fundamentals.
Ammunition and Reliability
Rimfire pistols are pickier about ammo than centerfire guns. Most owners get the best function with quality 40 grain round nose 22 LR. Try a few brands, keep the gun clean and lightly lubricated, and give it a break in period of a few hundred rounds.
Cleaning and Care
22 LR leaves a lot of fouling. Field strip and clean the slide, barrel and breech face after every few range sessions, and wipe the Cerakote with a lightly oiled cloth.
State Laws
Some states restrict pistol features such as threaded barrels or limit which handguns can be sold. Check your state law before you order. Pennsylvania buyers can transfer at our Collegeville shop or at any FFL.

Before You Buy
Federal law requires handguns to ship to a licensed FFL dealer for transfer with a background check, and you must be 21 to buy a handgun from a dealer. Our original listing title said 8 rounds, but Browning and Sports South both list this pistol as 10+1. We go by the manufacturer spec; ask us if you need the magazine count confirmed. This color is a distributor run and Browning does not show it on its website, so we have fewer photos of it.
