Description
The Browning 1911-22 Compact SR Rail is the Browning 1911-22 Black Label Compact Suppressor Ready with Rail, a 22 LR pistol with a matte black slide, a 4 1/4 inch threaded steel barrel and a black composite frame. This listing is UPC 023614044185, Browning item 051821490. It weighs about 13 oz and holds 10 rounds in a single stack magazine.
Browning 1911-22 Compact SR Rail Overview
The 1911-22 is built at 85 percent of the size of the original Model 1911, so it has the look, controls and manual of arms of a full size 1911 but fires inexpensive 22 LR ammunition. It is a single action pistol with a grip safety and a thumb safety, which makes it a good way to learn 1911 handling and to practice for a fraction of the cost of centerfire ammo.
85 Percent Scale
Because the frame and slide are scaled down to 85 percent, the grip fits smaller hands well and the pistol is light and easy to carry around the range. The flip side is that standard 1911 holsters and magazines will not fit, so buy holsters and spare magazines made specifically for the 1911-22.
Suppressor Ready Barrel
The 4 1/4 inch barrel is threaded 1/2-28, the standard thread pitch for 22 rimfire suppressors and muzzle devices. A suppressor is an NFA item that requires an approved ATF Form 4 and registration and is not legal in every state. MAG5 does not sell NFA items, and no suppressor is included.
Black Label Features
The Black Label SR models add G-10 grips with angled serrations, an accessory rail for a light or laser, an extended ambidextrous thumb safety, a beavertail grip safety, a commander style hammer and an extended slide release.
Sights and Shooting
Browning fits combat style three dot sights with a 4 3/4 inch sight radius. The single action trigger and light recoil make it easy to shoot small groups, and it is a good pistol for teaching new shooters the fundamentals.
Ammunition and Reliability
Rimfire pistols are pickier about ammo than centerfire guns. Most owners get the best function with quality 40 grain round nose 22 LR. Try a few brands, keep the gun clean and lightly lubricated, and give it a break in period of a few hundred rounds.
Cleaning and Care
22 LR leaves a lot of fouling. Field strip and clean the slide, barrel and breech face after every few range sessions, and wipe the Cerakote with a lightly oiled cloth.
State Laws
Some states restrict pistol features such as threaded barrels or limit which handguns can be sold. Check your state law before you order. Pennsylvania buyers can transfer at our Collegeville shop or at any FFL.
