Black Rain Recon Scout 556 Armor Black Overview
Black Rain Ordnance builds its rifles in Neosho, Missouri, and offers dozens of configurations and finishes across its rifle lines. The Recon Series is its top tier line, built on 7075 T6 billet aluminum receivers with premium parts throughout, such as a stainless barrel and an adjustable gas block.
Receiver and Controls
The Fallout 15 receiver set is machined from 7075 T6 billet aluminum, which allows tighter fit between the upper and lower and cleaner lines than forged parts. The 7075 T6 billet charge handle has an oversized tactical latch that is easy to grab with gloves or with an optic mounted.
Barrel and Gas System
The 16 inch 416R stainless steel nitrided barrel runs a direct impingement gas system with a .750 low profile adjustable gas block. Black Rain uses a nickel boron coated bolt carrier group in this rifle, which runs cleaner and is easier to wipe down than a plain phosphate carrier. The muzzle wears a slim milled flash suppressor, and a free float handguard keeps pressure off the barrel for better accuracy.
Handguard and Furniture
The 15 inch slim M-LOK free float handguard gives you M-LOK slots for a light, sling mount, bipod or grip. Furniture is a Magpul MOE grip and an MFT Minimalist stock. Black Rain notes that a Magpul MBUS Pro offset front sight may need modification to fit its slim handguards, so plan your backup sights accordingly.
Trigger
Black Rain fits a 3.5 pound drop in trigger, which breaks much lighter and cleaner than a standard mil-spec trigger. That helps with precise shots at distance, but take time to get used to it before using it for defense. The adjustable gas block lets you tune the rifle for a suppressor or for softer recoil.
The 5.56 NATO
The 5.56 NATO chamber also fires 223 Remington, so you can shoot inexpensive practice ammo and premium hunting or defensive loads in the same rifle. It is the most common rifle round in America and the standard for home defense, competition and varmint hunting.
Uses
The Black Rain Recon Scout 556 Armor Black fits home defense, 3 gun style competition and varmint or coyote hunting. Add a red dot or a low power variable optic to the flat top upper and a weapon light on the M-LOK rail and it is ready for the range or the house.
Finish and Care
Armor Black is a durable, non reflective black finish that matches any optic or accessory. Clean the bolt carrier group and chamber every few hundred rounds, keep the BCG lightly oiled, and wipe the finish after handling.
State Laws
AR rifles and 30 round magazines are restricted or banned in some states, including California, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Illinois, Washington and Colorado for magazines. Check your state and local laws before you buy. Pennsylvania buyers can transfer at our Collegeville shop or at any FFL.
