Description
The Berger 6.5 PRC 140gr Elite Hunter pairs the fast 6.5 Precision Rifle Cartridge with Berger 140 grain Elite Hunter bullet, a favorite among handloaders hunting mid-sized game. Berger lists 3,000 fps and 2,798 ft-lbs at the muzzle from a 26 inch barrel, with the bullet still carrying 2,405 fps at 400 yards. Each box holds 20 rounds.
Why Hunters Choose the Berger 6.5 PRC 140gr Elite Hunter
The Elite Hunter bullet uses Berger hybrid ogive, which starts as a tangent shape for easy tuning and transitions to a secant shape for a flatter trajectory and less wind drift. Its high ballistic coefficient lets factory ammunition buyers get exterior ballistics that once required handloading.
Berger designs its hunting bullets to penetrate a short distance and then expand rapidly, creating a large wound cavity. That makes them effective on deer, pronghorn, black bear and similar game when shots are placed in the vitals.
The 6.5 PRC adds significant velocity over the 6.5 Creedmoor while keeping recoil moderate, which helps shooters spot their own impacts and follow up quickly.
Field Notes for 6.5 PRC Hunters
As 6.5 PRC hunting ammo, this load is built for open country and longer shots. Know your realistic effective range, practice from field positions, and confirm drops at the distances you intend to shoot.
For elk and larger game, many hunters prefer heavier bullets or larger calibers, and shot placement becomes even more critical. On mid-sized game, the 140 grain Elite Hunter is right in its element.
Chronograph the load in your rifle, since velocity will vary with barrel length. Berger publishes ballistic and twist rate calculators to help build accurate data.
Check local regulations for lead-free requirements, since this bullet uses a lead core.
