Description

Extreme Outer Limits is a mouthful, but the idea behind it is simple: a hunting bullet with a match bullet ballistic coefficient, so it still expands where lesser bullets have gone subsonic. The Berger 6.5 Creedmoor 156gr EOL is the heaviest thing Berger loads in this cartridge, and the only hunting option that reaches.

A Hunting Bullet That Still Works at Distance
Most hunting bullets are designed around an expansion window that assumes a shot inside 300 yards. Push past that and impact velocity falls below what the jacket needs to open, and the bullet behaves like a solid. The Extreme Outer Limits line exists to move that window outward by combining a genuinely high ballistic coefficient with a jacket engineered to open at lower velocities.
At 2680 feet per second with a G7 ballistic coefficient of 0.347, the Berger 6.5 Creedmoor 156gr EOL retains velocity better than any other hunting load Berger offers in this cartridge. At 400 yards it is still moving 2179 feet per second with 1645 foot-pounds, which is comfortably inside its expansion range and enough energy for deer-sized game well beyond that.
The tradeoff against the lighter 135 grain Classic Hunter is muzzle velocity and recoil. This load starts 170 feet per second slower and kicks noticeably harder. Inside 250 yards the lighter bullet is easier to shoot well; past 400 this one is doing meaningfully more work.
Berger 6.5 Creedmoor 156gr EOL Specifications
Terminal behaviour is the standard Berger hunting pattern: two to three inches of penetration before the jacket opens, then rapid expansion and fragmentation through the vitals. That delayed onset puts the energy inside the animal rather than on the surface, and on deer, antelope and hogs it produces very quick kills.
The same design means the Berger 6.5 Creedmoor 156gr EOL is not an elk bullet in the sense of a shoulder-breaking load. It works on elk with careful behind-the-shoulder placement, but if a heavy angled shot is likely, a bonded or partitioned bullet in a bigger cartridge is the honest choice.
Twist rate is 1:8 or faster, which every current 6.5 Creedmoor barrel meets. A 156 grain 6.5mm bullet is long, so this is the load most likely to reveal a marginal twist. Maximum cartridge overall length is 2.825 inches, so it feeds from standard short-action and AICS magazines.

Honest Notes on This Load
Buy the Berger 6.5 Creedmoor 156gr EOL if you hunt open country with a 6.5 Creedmoor and take shots past 300 yards. This is the load that keeps a hunting bullet working at distances where lighter ones stop expanding.
Choose the 135 grain Classic Hunter instead for timber and close cover, where the flatter, faster, softer-recoiling bullet is easier to shoot well and the extra ballistic coefficient earns nothing.
Skip it for elk if a shoulder shot is on the table. A fragmenting bullet in a 6.5 Creedmoor is a marginal elk combination, and pretending otherwise costs animals.
Lighter hunting option: the Berger 6.5 Creedmoor 135gr Classic Hunter. For match work at the same distances, the 144gr Long Range Hybrid Target. Berger publishes complete 156gr EOL ballistic data on its own site.
