Who Makes Berger 300 PRC 245gr Elite Hunter

Berger began as a precision bullet maker, and its bullets have long been favourites with competitive long range shooters. The Elite Hunter line applies the same manufacturing standards to bullets designed specifically for hunting at extended range.

The Elite Hunter uses a hybrid ogive, which blends a tangent shape near the bearing surface with a secant shape towards the tip. Berger explains that the tangent section makes the bullet easy to tune, while the secant section gives a flatter trajectory and less wind drift. A boat tail adds further efficiency at long range.

Berger also highlights its consistent core manufacturing. Because bullet weights are so uniform, you get more predictable drop and ballistic coefficient from shot to shot, which is exactly what matters when you are making a long shot on an elk.

Field Notes

Use this ammunition only in rifles chambered for 300 PRC. The cartridge is not interchangeable with 300 Winchester Magnum, 300 Norma Magnum or 300 Remington Ultra Magnum. Long, heavy bullets like the 245 grain Elite Hunter also need a fast twist barrel; most 300 PRC rifles use 1:8 or 1:8.5, but check your rifle and use the Berger twist rate calculator if you are unsure.

Expect stout recoil from a 245 grain bullet in a magnum case. A muzzle brake or suppressor and a well-fitted stock help you stay on target and see your hits through the scope.

Elite Hunter bullets are designed to penetrate a short distance before expanding, which helps them perform on large animals. Shot placement is still everything. Aim for the vitals and pass on shots where wind, angle or distance leave you uncertain.
