Description

Berger 300 Norma Mag 230gr Hybrid OTM Tactical is factory long range match ammunition for one of the most capable sniper cartridges in current service. It takes the Berger 230 grain Hybrid bullet, loads it into 300 Norma Magnum brass with a temperature stable powder and a match grade primer, and packs it 20 rounds to a box.
Who Makes Berger 300 Norma Mag 230gr Hybrid OTM
Berger began as a bullet maker, and its Hybrid bullets have been a fixture in long range competition for years. The company later moved into loaded ammunition so that shooters could get its projectiles in consistent factory form. Berger 300 Norma Mag 230gr Hybrid OTM is part of the Tactical range, which Berger designed with military and law enforcement precision requirements in mind.
The 300 Norma Magnum gained ground first with extreme long range shooters, then with the military. U.S. Special Operations Command selected it for its Advanced Sniper Rifle programme, which pushed the cartridge into the mainstream and broadened the range of rifles and ammunition available for it.
The Hybrid OTM Tactical bullet blends tangent and secant ogive shapes. In practice that makes it less sensitive to seating depth than a pure secant design while keeping a high ballistic coefficient. Berger notes that the 230 grain weight gives up some BC compared with its heavier offerings in exchange for higher velocity.
Specifications and Performance
Berger publishes its ballistics from a 26 inch barrel at sea level. Retailer listings show a muzzle velocity of about 2,934 fps and roughly 4,397 ft-lbs of energy. The Berger table shows 2,803 fps at 100 yards, 2,675 fps at 200 and 2,430 fps at 400 yards, with the bullet still carrying over 3,000 ft-lbs at that distance.
With a 200 yard zero, the published drop is 1.46 inches high at 100 yards, 6.31 inches low at 300 and 17.97 inches low at 400 yards. Retail listings put the G1 ballistic coefficient at around 0.72. Your own rifle, barrel length and altitude will change these figures, so true your data with a chronograph and real impacts at distance before you rely on any ballistic solver.
Berger says the temperature stable powder is chosen so that velocity changes as little as possible between a cold morning and a hot afternoon. For long range match ammunition that consistency matters as much as raw speed, because small velocity swings become large vertical misses at 1,000 yards and beyond.

Field Notes
This load is for rifles chambered in 300 Norma Magnum only. It is not interchangeable with 300 Winchester Magnum, 300 PRC or 30-378, even though they share a 30 caliber bullet. Check the barrel marking before you load a single round.
Expect substantial recoil from a 230 grain bullet at this velocity. A muzzle brake or suppressor, and a rifle of reasonable weight, make a real difference over a long string. Barrel life in big 30 caliber magnums is also shorter than in a 308 or 6.5 Creedmoor, so budget for that if you shoot a lot.
The Hybrid OTM Tactical is a target and tactical bullet. It is not designed as a controlled expansion hunting bullet, and Berger offers separate hunting lines for that job. If you plan to hunt with a 300 Norma Magnum, choose a dedicated hunting load and check your state regulations.
At roughly five dollars a round, Berger 300 Norma Mag 230gr Hybrid OTM is ammunition you use when the shot counts, not for zeroing practice. Keep a single lot for a match or season, record its velocity in your rifle, and store it cool and dry.
