Bergara B-14R Barreled Action 22 LR 20″ Heavy Barrel – Superb Rimfire Trainer Build

Description

The Bergara B-14R Barreled Action 22 LR is a heavy-barrel 22 LR barreled action that lets you build a rimfire trainer in the chassis or stock of your choice. This is Bergara model B14RBA003, UPC 043125017188: a B-14R action mated to a 20-inch heavy stainless steel barrel with a 1:16 twist and a 1/2×28 threaded muzzle, supplied with a trigger and a 10-round magazine.

Bergara B-14R Barreled Action 22 LR Overview

Bergara built the B-14R so rimfire shooters could train on a rifle that feels like their centerfire gun. Buying it as a barreled action takes that idea further: drop it into the same chassis you run on your match rifle and you get identical ergonomics, controls and cheek weld while shooting inexpensive 22 LR ammunition.

Heavy Stainless Barrel

The 20-inch heavy-contour barrel stays stiff and stable through long strings of fire, which keeps groups tight during practice and match stages. The 1:16 twist suits standard 40 grain 22 LR loads, and the 1/2×28 threads accept a rimfire suppressor or a thread protector.

B-14R Action

The action uses a floating bolt head with a non-rotating gas shield for smooth, consistent cycling. It is built to the same outside dimensions as the B-14 and Remington 700 short action, so it fits many popular chassis systems and stocks.

AICS-Pattern Magazine

The single-stack 10-round magazine is built to the outside dimensions of a short-action AICS magazine, so it works with the same pouches and reload drills you use with your centerfire rifle.

Building Your Trainer

Pick a chassis or stock that matches your centerfire rifle, then add the same optic and bipod if you can. Torque the action screws to the chassis maker’s specification and confirm the barrel floats freely before zeroing.

Why Train With a Rimfire

A rimfire trainer lets you rehearse positional shooting, wind calls and trigger control for a fraction of the cost of centerfire ammunition. Shooting at 50 to 200 yards with 22 LR mimics many of the challenges you face at long range with a centerfire rifle.

Choosing Ammunition

Rimfire precision rifles often favor certain loads. Test a few standard velocity match lots at 50 yards and buy a full case of the lot that groups best so your data stays consistent.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Clean the bolt face and chamber regularly to prevent fouling build-up, and only clean the bore when accuracy starts to fall off, since many rimfire barrels shoot best slightly fouled.

Safe Storage at Home

Store firearms unloaded in a locked safe or cabinet with ammunition kept separately, and teach everyone in the household basic safety rules.
