Description
The Beretta M9A4 15 Round is the current military-pattern 92 at the capacity most shooters actually buy spares for. Fifteen rounds of 9mm, a 5.10-inch threaded barrel, an optic-ready slide and an aluminium frame with a beavertail and a Picatinny rail, finished in Flat Dark Earth Cerakote.
This is part number JS92M9A4M15. The absence of a G in that number is the detail worth knowing: unlike the eighteen-round version, the Beretta M9A4 15 Round carries the combined safety and decocker, so the lever can be left engaged as a manual safety.
What the M9A4 brought to the 92
- A factory optic cut, so a red dot mounts with no milling and no warranty argument
- A threaded muzzle for a compensator or thread protector
- A Picatinny rail moulded into the dust cover for a weapon light
- Full Cerakote coverage rather than a Bruniton finish
- Fifteen rounds, the most widely stocked 92-series magazine capacity

Safety and decocker, or decocker only
- This pistol has the combined lever: it decocks and stays engaged as a safety
- The eighteen-round M9A4 is the G model, which decocks and springs back to fire
- A manual safety suits shooters who want one for storage or transport
- A decocker-only gun cannot be presented with a dead trigger
- Both share an identical lever position, so training transfers between them

Fifteen rounds is the practical capacity
Eighteen-round magazines are not lawful everywhere and they cost more. Fifteen is the capacity the 92 platform has been built around for forty years, which means spares are cheap, available everywhere, and will still be on the shelf in a decade. For most buyers the Beretta M9A4 15 Round is the sensible version.
For practice, CCI Blazer Brass keeps the cost per round low, and cartridge dimensions and maximum pressures are published by SAAMI.
Setting it up
The Beretta M9A4 15 Round is ready for a dot, a light and a muzzle device out of the box. The optic cut is machined into the slide, so it keeps zero; adapter plates are footprint-specific and sold separately, so check which pattern your sight uses before ordering.
A suppressor is an NFA item requiring an ATF application and approval before transfer, and MAG5 Firearms does not deal in NFA items. The threads take a compensator or thread protector with no such requirement.
The double action first shot
The Beretta M9A4 15 Round fires the first round double action and the rest single action. The long first pull is a deliberate safety feature and is very hard to fire by accident, and the decocker returns the pistol to that state without touching the trigger.
If you carry with the manual safety engaged, practise sweeping it off as part of the draw until it is automatic. If that prospect bothers you, the decocker-only eighteen-round version removes the question.
Why this pistol earns its place
- The current-generation 92 with an optic cut, a rail and a threaded muzzle
- The Beretta M9A4 15 Round offers a manual safety, which the eighteen-round version does not
- An aluminium frame and steel slide, which very few makers still offer
- Full Cerakote coverage rather than a conventional slide finish
- Fifteen-round magazines are the cheapest and most available for this platform
The Beretta M9A4 15 Round suits a shooter who wants the modern M9A4 and prefers having a manual safety available. For decocker-only operation the eighteen-round M9A4 is the alternative, the M9A4 Centurion has a shorter slide, and the M9 is the classic service pistol.
