Description

The Beretta BRX1 7mm Rem Mag is Beretta’s straight-pull rifle chambered for the long-range magnum that has been quietly outselling most of its modern rivals for fifty years. 7mm Remington Magnum shoots flatter than a .30-06, drifts less in wind than a .300 Winchester Magnum, and recoils noticeably less than either for the energy it delivers at four hundred yards.

This is the 22-inch configuration with a black steel barrel and a black synthetic stock, holding five rounds plus one. The Beretta BRX1 7mm Rem Mag has the same straight-pull action as the rest of the family: the bolt cycles back and forward with no lift.

Why the straight-pull matters on a magnum

  • No bolt lift, so a hard-recoiling cartridge does not also break your shooting position
  • The scope picture survives the cycle, which is the only way to spot your own shot at distance
  • A fast second shot, which matters most at the ranges a 7mm Magnum is used at
  • The bolt handle swaps sides, so the Beretta BRX1 7mm Rem Mag is ambidextrous by design
  • Twenty-two inches of barrel, short enough to carry and long enough for the cartridge

What 7mm Remington Magnum does best

  • High ballistic coefficients, so the bullet holds velocity and resists wind better than a .30 caliber
  • A flatter trajectory than .30-06 at every distance past two hundred yards
  • Meaningfully less recoil than a .300 Winchester Magnum for similar downrange effect
  • Enough for elk, moose and open-country mule deer with a well-constructed bullet
  • Factory ammunition is widely stocked and has been for half a century

One action, several calibers

Barrels and bolt heads on the BRX1 are changeable by the owner, which makes the Beretta BRX1 7mm Rem Mag the start of a system rather than a single rifle. Keep the action, the stock and the trigger; change the barrel when you want a different cartridge. Belted magnums such as the 7mm Remington and the .300 Winchester share a case head, so those two swap with the barrel alone.

Cartridge dimensions and maximum pressures are published by SAAMI. A suppressor is an NFA item requiring an ATF application and approval before transfer, and MAG5 Firearms does not deal in NFA items.

Scope mounting on a magnum

The rail on the Beretta BRX1 7mm Rem Mag is machined into the receiver rather than bolted to it. On a magnum this matters more than on a mild cartridge, because a bolted base is one more interface for recoil to work loose over a few hundred rounds.

Set eye relief generously. A 7mm Remington Magnum will punish a scope mounted too far back, and mount the rings as low as the objective allows so your cheek can stay on the stock through the straight-pull stroke.

Practice without the punishment

Magnum rifles get shot twice a year because they are unpleasant, and a rifle you do not practice with is a rifle you cannot shoot. Snap caps make it possible to drill the straight-pull stroke at home at no cost and no recoil, which is where the speed of this action is actually learned.

At the range, alternate magnum strings with something mild. Ten careful rounds from the Beretta BRX1 7mm Rem Mag will teach you more than forty flinched ones.

Why this rifle earns its place

  • A straight-pull action in a long-range magnum, which almost nobody else builds
  • The Beretta BRX1 7mm Rem Mag cycles without lifting your head, so you can watch the bullet land
  • Barrels and bolt heads are user-changeable, so the action covers other calibers
  • A receiver-integral rail, which survives magnum recoil better than any bolted base
  • Flatter and softer-shooting than a .300 Winchester Magnum for comparable reach

The Beretta BRX1 7mm Rem Mag suits open-country hunting where shots are long and wind is the main problem. The same action is offered in 300 Winchester Magnum, .30-06 Springfield and the milder 6.5 Creedmoor.
