Beretta BRX1 243 Win Black Straight-Pull 20in — Superb Hunting Rifle

Description

The Beretta BRX1 243 Win Black is Beretta’s straight-pull rifle in the cartridge most people should be buying and mostly are not. .243 Winchester kicks so little that a new shooter never learns to flinch, shoots flat enough for any sensible deer range, and doubles as a serious varmint and predator round with a lighter bullet.

This is part number JBRX1EN315: five rounds plus one, a 20-inch threaded black steel barrel, a Picatinny rail machined into the receiver, and a black synthetic stock with a negative comb and adjustable length of pull. The Beretta BRX1 243 Win Black is ambidextrous, with a bolt handle that swaps sides.

Why a straight-pull suits a .243

• The bolt cycles straight back and forward with no lift, so your head stays on the stock
• With so little recoil you can watch the bullet land and correct immediately
• Fast follow-up shots matter on a second coyote or a deer that moves
• The Beretta BRX1 243 Win Black is ambidextrous by design, with the bolt handle swapping to the left
• A 20-inch barrel keeps the rifle short enough for a blind or a truck

What .243 Winchester is actually good at

• Recoil mild enough for a young or recoil-shy shooter to learn on properly
• Flat trajectory that forgives a small range-estimation error
• Excellent on deer with a well-constructed 95 to 100 grain bullet
• A genuine varmint and predator cartridge with lighter bullets
• Ammunition is available everywhere and has been for seventy years

The modular argument

Barrels and bolt heads on the BRX1 are changeable by the owner, which makes the Beretta BRX1 243 Win Black the start of a system rather than a single rifle. The action, the stock and the trigger stay; a different barrel makes it a different calibre. For anyone who would otherwise buy a second rifle, that is worth doing the arithmetic on.

If you handload, .243 factory ammunition is widely stocked and brass is easy to come by. Cartridge dimensions and maximum pressures are published by SAAMI.

Threads and what they are for

The muzzle on the Beretta BRX1 243 Win Black is threaded, which takes a brake or a thread protector directly. On a .243 a brake is close to pointless given how little the cartridge recoils, but the threads are there if you want them.

A suppressor is a different matter: it is an NFA item requiring an ATF application and approval before transfer, and MAG5 Firearms does not deal in NFA items. The threads themselves are unregulated.

Scope mounting

The rail is cut into the receiver rather than bolted on, so standard Picatinny rings fit with no base and no shim stack. Keep the rings low: the point of a straight-pull is cycling without breaking cheek weld, and a high scope gives that advantage straight back.

Why this rifle earns its place

• A straight-pull action in the mildest of the serious deer cartridges
• The Beretta BRX1 243 Win Black is a rifle a new shooter can learn on without developing a flinch
• User-changeable barrels and bolt heads, so the action can follow you into other calibres
• A receiver-integral rail, which holds zero better than any bolted base
• Adjustable length of pull, so it fits a growing shooter or a jacket

The Beretta BRX1 243 Win Black suits a first serious rifle, a recoil-sensitive shooter, and anyone who wants one gun for deer and predators. The same rifle is offered with an OD Green stock, in .308 Winchester and in 6.5 Creedmoor.
