Description
This is the Beretta A400 Xcel Multitarget in the standard recoil pad configuration, part number J40CS10, with a 30 inch blued barrel and a silver anodized receiver. It is the same competition autoloader as the Kick-Off equipped build, but it ships with Beretta’s Micro-Core pad instead, which keeps the price down and the stock a little simpler. Kick-Off can be fitted later if you decide you want it.
Capacity is four plus one in a 3 inch chamber, the stock and forend are grade 2.5 oiled walnut, and the gun weighs 7.69 pounds.
Set the gun up for the discipline you are shooting
The B-Fast comb adjusts for height, which sets where your eye sits relative to the rib. That is the fit dimension that decides whether a gun shoots where you look, and being able to change it in the parking lot rather than at a stockmaker’s bench is the whole argument for this model.
The rib adjusts as well, moving point of impact up or down. Trap shooters typically want the pattern high so a rising target stays visible above the bead; sporting and skeet shooters usually want it flat. A balance cap in the stock lets you add or remove weight to change how the gun swings. Configure it for the discipline, shoot it, then reconfigure for the next one.
Blink gas system, chokes, and the Micro-Core pad
The Blink gas system is the fastest cycling autoloading action Beretta builds, with a self-cleaning piston and pressure venting that handles light 24 gram practice loads and heavier competition shells without adjustment. Over a long practice session that consistency matters more than raw speed.
The Micro-Core recoil pad uses a cellular polymer structure to spread the recoil impulse over a longer moment rather than absorbing it hydraulically. It is lighter and simpler than the Kick-Off system and perfectly adequate for most shooters at normal round counts. The gun ships with extended OptimaChoke HP tubes in improved cylinder, modified, and improved modified, and the oversized bolt handle stays easy to find under the clock.

Why it is worth considering
- Comb and rib both adjust, so trap, skeet, and sporting settings all live in one gun.
- Micro-Core pad keeps weight and cost down while still taming a full day of target loads.
- A balance cap for tuning swing weight to your own preference.
- Blink cycling that runs cheap practice ammunition as happily as competition loads.
- Three extended choke tubes included, covering the range clay shooters actually use.
Who it suits
This is the sensible entry point into the Xcel Multitarget line for a shooter who competes across disciplines but does not shoot the volume that makes hydraulic recoil reduction worth paying for. Club-level trap, skeet, and sporting clays are all well within what it does, and the adjustability means a shooter can grow into a proper fit rather than living with a compromise. High-volume competitors, and anyone who has already developed a flinch, should spend the extra on the Kick-Off version. Hunters should look at the lighter A400 Upland instead.

Shells, setup, and transfer notes
Target shotshells are standardized by SAAMI, and the 3 inch chamber takes everything from light practice loads upward, though a clays gun has no business seeing 3 inch shells. We stock 1 1/8 ounce heavy target loads for volume work. Start your setup at a pattern board at forty yards: adjust the comb until your eye is aligned without conscious effort, then move the rib until the pattern lands where your discipline calls for it.
Shooters who expect high round counts, or who already feel recoil fatigue setting in late in a shoot, should compare the Kick-Off equipped version of this same gun. Hunters who want the Blink action in a lighter field package should look at the A400 Upland. Every long gun we sell ships to a licensed FFL for transfer and background check, and Pennsylvania buyers should plan on the state point of contact check at pickup.
