Description

The BCM RECCE-14 MCMR FDE is the Flat Dark Earth version of Bravo Company’s 14.5 inch carbine. Mechanically it is identical to the black and bronze guns: a government profile barrel with a mid length gas system and a compensator pinned and welded to carry overall length past sixteen inches. Flat Dark Earth is the most useful of the three finishes if the rifle spends time outdoors.

It reads as tan rather than grey in daylight, disappears against dry ground and dead grass in a way black never does, and shows dust and handling wear far less obviously.

What the BCM RECCE-14 MCMR FDE Is Built From

The barrel is 14.5 inches of MIL-SPEC 11595E steel in the government profile, with a chrome lined USGI 5.56 chamber and bore and a 1:7 twist. Chrome lining gives up a little intrinsic accuracy in exchange for corrosion resistance, barrel life and extraction that keeps working when the rifle is filthy.

A mid length gas system on a 14.5 inch barrel is close to the ideal combination. The longer distance from chamber to gas port drops the pressure reaching the bolt and lengthens dwell time, so the action is gentler on itself and on the shooter than a carbine length equivalent.

The bolt carrier group is MIL-SPEC Carpenter No. 158 steel, shot peened, high pressure tested and magnetic particle inspected, running a chrome lined full auto profile carrier, a tool steel extractor and BCM’s own extractor spring with black insert.

The Pinned Compensator and the Rest of the Rifle

Pinning and welding the compensator is what keeps this a Title I rifle rather than a short barreled rifle. Overall length is permanently over sixteen inches, so there is no tax stamp, no registration and no state SBR restriction to work around.

Permanent means permanent. Changing the muzzle device later requires a gunsmith to cut the pin and re-crown or re-thread the barrel, so if a suppressor mount is in your plans, factor that in before ordering rather than afterwards.

The upper is a flat top with M4 feed ramps and laser T-markings, the lower carries a low shelf, and the furniture is BCM Gunfighter throughout: stock, grip, charging handle, QD end plate, PNT trigger and enhanced trigger guard.

  • Mid length gas system, gentler on the rifle and the shooter
  • Chrome lined USGI 5.56 bore built for round count rather than group size
  • Carpenter No. 158 bolt, shot peened and HPT and MPI tested

Who it suits

This suits the buyer who wants a BCM carbine that works as well in the field as on a range, in a finish that does not announce itself. It is mechanically identical to the black and bronze rifles, so the choice is honestly about looks.

Ammunition, Optics and Transfer Notes for the BCM RECCE-14 MCMR FDE

A 1:7 twist stabilizes the whole range of 5.56 bullet weights, from 55 grain practice ball through 77 grain match, so one rifle covers cheap training and serious use without changes. The chamber is cut to 5.56 NATO, so both 5.56 and 223 Remington are safe in it. Cartridge and chamber standards are published by SAAMI.

With no fixed front sight the flat top upper and free float handguard leave the sight line completely clear. A red dot is the natural choice at this barrel length and a 1-6 or 1-8 low power variable extends the rifle without much weight penalty. Backup irons are worth fitting if the rifle has a defensive role.

Magazine capacity is restricted in several states and some jurisdictions restrict semi automatic rifles of this configuration outright, so confirm your local law before ordering. The same carbine is listed in black and burnt bronze, and more of our inventory is on the MAG5 Firearms shop page. The BCM RECCE-14 MCMR FDE ships to a licensed dealer of your choosing, where you will complete a 4473 and a NICS check.
