Description

Baschieri Pellagri Dove and Quail 20 Ga is the 20 gauge version of the B&P Heavy Dove and Quail line. Each 2-3/4 inch shell carries a full 1 oz of 7.5 shot at a published 1,175 fps, which makes it one of the heavier heavy dove loads you can buy for a 20 gauge. It comes 25 shells to a box.
Who Makes Baschieri Pellagri Dove and Quail 20 Ga
Baschieri & Pellagri, usually called B&P, was founded in Bologna, Italy in 1885. It makes its own powders, hulls and wads, and its competition shells are used at the highest levels of international clay shooting. B&P USA brings the range to American hunters and shooters.
The Heavy Dove and Quail line is designed for high-volume field shooting. Dove openers can mean dozens of shots in an afternoon, and these shells are built for consistent patterns and reliable cycling through semi-automatic shotguns as well as pumps and over-unders.
A 1 oz payload is heavier than the 7/8 oz you see in many 20 gauge field loads. The extra eighth of an ounce puts more pellets in the air, which helps on fast, crossing doves and on quail flushing at close range. That is the main reason hunters choose Baschieri Pellagri Dove and Quail 20 Ga over lighter field loads.
Specifications and Performance
The published specification for Baschieri Pellagri Dove and Quail 20 Ga is 20 gauge, 2-3/4 inch shell length, 1 oz of 7.5 shot and a muzzle velocity of 1,175 fps. Number 7.5 lead shot has roughly 350 pellets per ounce, giving a dense pattern that is ideal for small birds.
The moderate 1,175 fps velocity keeps recoil manageable, even with the heavier payload. For most dove and quail hunting an improved cylinder or modified choke works well. As always, shoot a few patterns at 25 and 35 yards to see how your gun handles this load.
The same shells double as a capable load for sporting clays and skeet when you want a little extra payload, although dedicated target loads are usually cheaper for practice.

Field Notes
These shells use lead shot, so they cannot be used for waterfowl, and some states and public dove fields now require non-toxic shot. Check your state regulations and any rules for the field you plan to hunt before opening day.
Never mix 20 gauge and 12 gauge shells. A 20 gauge shell dropped into a 12 gauge chamber can slide into the barrel, and firing a 12 gauge shell behind it can cause a dangerous barrel failure. Keep 20 gauge shells in their own pouch or vest pocket.
For quail hunting over dogs, shots are often close and quick, so an open choke is usually best. For doves, which can be fast and high, a modified choke gives a little more reach. Either way, stay within about 35 to 40 yards with 7.5 shot for clean kills.
Dove openers burn through shells quickly, so many hunters buy by the case. Store shells cool and dry and they will keep for years.
If you shoot a light 20 gauge over-under, the 1 oz payload will be noticeable after a long afternoon. Many shooters accept that trade for the denser pattern, but if recoil is a concern, try a box of Baschieri Pellagri Dove and Quail 20 Ga alongside a lighter 7/8 oz load and compare before buying a full case.
