Description
The Barrett MRAD ELR Magazine is the factory five round box that feeds the MRADELR, Barrett’s extreme long range bolt gun. It is a purpose built polymer magazine sized for the 416 Barrett cartridge, and it is the only thing standing between a very expensive rifle and a very long walk back to the bench when a magazine goes missing at a match. Barrett part number 18897 is the black polymer version in 416 Barrett, holding five rounds. Anyone shooting the MRADELR seriously should own more than one.
Extreme long range matches are slow, deliberate affairs, and having a loaded spare on the mat beats fumbling single rounds into an empty magazine while the wind window closes.
What the Barrett MRAD ELR Magazine Fits
This magazine is built for the Barrett MRADELR chambered in 416 Barrett. It is not interchangeable with standard MRAD magazines in 308 Winchester, 300 Norma or 338 Lapua, and it will not fit the shorter magazine wells on the conventional MRAD chassis. The case length of the 416 dictates a body far longer than anything built for those chamberings.
Barrett also catalogs an MRADELR magazine for the 375 EnABELR chambering under a separate part number, and the two do not cross over. Check the caliber marking on the body before ordering, because a magazine that will not seat is an expensive lesson at a match.
Loading is conventional. Rounds press straight down under the feed lips, and the follower stays visible through the body so you can confirm the count before seating the magazine in the rifle.
Why a Spare Barrett MRAD ELR Magazine Is Worth Having
The 416 Barrett is a large cartridge. It was developed to push a 400 grain solid past 3,000 feet per second and stay supersonic well beyond two miles, and that case length dictates a magazine body far longer than anything built for 308 or 338. Nothing else in a range bag will substitute, which is precisely why a spare matters.
The magazine body is polymer rather than steel. That keeps weight down on a rifle that is already heavy by design, and polymer does not dent the way a thin steel body can when a loaded magazine gets dropped on gravel at a field match.
Feed lips and follower geometry on a cartridge this size are not something to improvise. This is the factory Barrett part, dimensionally matched to the MRADELR magazine well, so it drops free and seats without the fitting that aftermarket bodies sometimes require.

Ammunition and Ordering Notes for the Barrett MRAD ELR Magazine
416 Barrett is a proprietary cartridge and it is not stocked the way 308 or 6.5 Creedmoor are. Most MRADELR owners buy factory Barrett ammunition or handload, and either way the round count per magazine matters more than it does with a common chambering. Five rounds is the full capacity here, and for a discipline where a single stage may only call for three or five shots, one loaded magazine per stage is a reasonable way to plan a match day. Cartridge dimensions and pressure standards are maintained by SAAMI.
A note on care: keep the body clean and dry, and do not store the magazine loaded for years at a time if you can avoid it. Polymer bodies are dimensionally stable, but a spring left fully compressed indefinitely is the one part of any magazine that eventually needs replacing. Wiping the feed lips after a dusty prone stage takes ten seconds and prevents most feeding complaints.
Magazines and other accessories ship directly to you with no dealer transfer required, which is one of the few conveniences of shooting a cartridge this size. You can see the rest of what we stock on the MAG5 Firearms shop page, and if you are still building the rifle around it, our bolt action rifle selection is worth a look. If you need the Barrett MRAD ELR Magazine in 375 EnABELR instead, call or email us and we will get the correct part number on order.
