Description

The Barrett M82A1 America 250 is the commemorative run of Barrett’s original 50 calibre rifle, built for the country’s 250th year and limited to 250 guns serial numbered LIBERTY001 through LIBERTY250. The finish is a custom Cerakote carrying the Join or Die snake from Franklin’s 1754 woodcut, with the words set along the receiver. Underneath the artwork it is a standard Model 82A1 with the 20 inch barrel: recoil operated, semi automatic, ten rounds of 50 BMG, flip up iron sights and a carrying handle on the rail.

Barrett has been building this rifle in one form or another since 1982, and the America 250 is a dress uniform on a working design rather than a special model in its own right.

What Ships With the Barrett M82A1 America 250

Each rifle comes with an RMJ Tactical Patriot Tomahawk serial numbered to match, a matching commemorative challenge coin, and a certificate of authenticity signed by Ronnie Barrett. The set arrives in a custom Pelican case cut to display the assembled rifle, with the Barrett manual and a sticker set.

Keep the set together if the rifle is bought as an investment. The matched tomahawk, the coin and the signed certificate are what distinguish LIBERTY112 from any other Model 82A1, and a rifle that turns up later without them loses most of the premium.

Barrett held back two matched sets, LIBERTY1776 and LIBERTY2026, for auction rather than retail, so the numbered retail run really is 250 rifles rather than 250 plus specials.

How the M82A1 Differs From the M107A1

The two rifles look similar and are not the same. The 82A1 is the older, simpler design: it weighs 31.4 pounds with the 20 inch barrel against 27.4 for the M107A1, and it ships with quick adjust flip up iron sights and a carrying handle that the M107A1 does not have.

The more consequential difference is at the muzzle. Barrett states plainly that the Model 82A1 does not come with a suppressor capable muzzle brake and will not accept large calibre suppressors. If a suppressed 50 is the goal, this is the wrong rifle. MAG5 Firearms does not sell NFA items in any case.

What the 82A1 gives back is mass and simplicity. Thirty one pounds of recoil operated rifle with a proper brake makes 50 BMG genuinely manageable, and there is less to go wrong than on the later gun. It also ships with the quick detach adjustable bipod and the rear grip that takes a monopod.

Who it suits

This suits the collector who wants a numbered commemorative Barrett on the original 82A1 pattern with the set intact, and the shooter who wants a 50 BMG semi automatic rifle that is beautiful and still entirely usable. It is a large purchase and it deserves an honest look at what shooting 50 BMG actually costs.

Ammunition, Optics and Transfer Notes for the Barrett M82A1 America 250

50 BMG is a military cartridge before it is a sporting one, and the cost reflects that. Match grade loads come from a small number of makers and are priced per round rather than per box, while surplus and steel case ammunition is cheaper and much less consistent. In a rifle like this the ammunition is almost always the accuracy limit rather than the barrel. Commercial cartridge standards are published by SAAMI.

Check your local law before ordering. 50 BMG rifles are prohibited in California and restricted in some municipalities, and plenty of public ranges either ban the cartridge outright or restrict it to a dedicated bay because of the muzzle blast. A phone call to your range before the rifle arrives saves an awkward trip.

The 23 inch rail carries 27 MOA of cant, which is far more than a conventional rifle and exists because 50 BMG gets used at distances where ordinary scopes run out of elevation. Choose an optic with the travel to use it and rings rated for a recoil operated rifle of this weight. If you want the newer platform with a suppressor capable brake, the M107A1 America 250 is its companion piece, and our MRADELR in 416 Barrett is the bolt action alternative. More stock sits on the MAG5 Firearms shop page. The Barrett M82A1 America 250 ships to a licensed dealer of your choosing, where you will complete a 4473 and a NICS check.
