Description

The Barrett M107A1 America 250 is Barrett’s commemorative run for the semiquincentennial, and it is a short one: 250 rifles, serial numbered FREEDOM001 through FREEDOM250. Each wears a subdued 1776 American flag in custom Cerakote across the receiver and handguard, over the standard M107A1 platform with the 20 inch fluted barrel. This is not a decal or a wrap. The flag and the 1776 marking are part of the Cerakote finish, applied at the factory, and the rifle ships as a matched set rather than on its own.

That is the difference between this and a standard M107A1, and it is what the price reflects.

What Ships With the Barrett M107A1 America 250

The set includes an RMJ Tactical Kestrel Tomahawk with a serial number matching the rifle, a matching commemorative challenge coin, and a certificate of authenticity signed by Ronnie Barrett. All of it arrives in a custom Pelican case cut to display the assembled rifle, along with the Barrett manual and a sticker set.

Collector value on a run like this depends on the set staying together. The matched tomahawk and coin are what separate rifle number FREEDOM137 from any other M107A1, and a rifle sold later without them is worth considerably less. Keep the certificate and the case.

Two additional matched sets carrying the serial numbers FREEDOM1776 and FREEDOM2026 were set aside by Barrett for auction rather than retail distribution, so the numbered retail run is genuinely 250 rifles.

Shooting a 50 BMG Semi Automatic Rifle

The M107A1 is recoil operated and semi automatic, feeding from a ten round magazine. At 27.4 pounds with the 20 inch barrel it is heavy enough that recoil is more of a long push than a sharp hit, and the cylindrical muzzle brake takes the rest out. What the brake does not do is make it pleasant for bystanders: the blast is severe, and most public ranges either ban 50 BMG outright or have a dedicated bay for it. Call ahead.

Ammunition is the ongoing cost. 50 BMG is measured in dollars per round rather than cents, and a casual afternoon of shooting is an expensive afternoon. Surplus and steel case loads exist but are inconsistent, and the good match ammunition this rifle deserves is priced accordingly.

Legality is worth checking before you order. 50 BMG rifles are prohibited in California and restricted in some municipalities, so confirm your own state and local law first. The muzzle brake accepts the Barrett QDL suppressor, but MAG5 Firearms does not sell NFA items, and a suppressor would need ATF approval, a tax stamp and its own transfer.

This suits the collector who wants a numbered commemorative Barrett with the whole set intact, and the shooter who wants a genuinely usable 50 BMG semi automatic rifle that happens to be finished beautifully. It is a serious amount of money and a serious amount of rifle, and it is not a casual range gun.

Ammunition, Optics and Transfer Notes for the Barrett M107A1 America 250

50 BMG is a military cartridge that reached civilian shooters rather than the other way round, and it behaves like one. Match grade loads are made by a handful of manufacturers and priced accordingly, while surplus and steel case ammunition is cheaper and far less consistent. In a rifle of this calibre the ammunition is usually the accuracy limit, not the barrel. Commercial cartridge standards are published by SAAMI.

The 23 inch rail carries 27 MOA of built in cant, which is a great deal more than a conventional rifle and exists because 50 BMG is used at ranges where a normal scope simply runs out of elevation. Pick an optic with the internal travel to use it, and mount it with rings rated for the recoil impulse of a 27 pound recoil operated rifle. Cheap rings do not survive here.

A note on the finish: the Cerakote flag is a factory applied finish and it will wear like any Cerakote if the rifle is used hard. That is a choice you make once. If you want a Barrett you can shoot without thinking about the finish, our MRADELR in 416 Barrett is the working alternative, and the rest of our inventory is on the MAG5 Firearms shop page. The Barrett M107A1 America 250 ships to a licensed dealer of your choosing, where you will complete a 4473 and a NICS check before taking it home.
