Description
The Barrett 416 Barrett 500gr A-Tip Precision load is factory ammunition built for extreme long range target shooting with the .416 Barrett cartridge. It pairs a Hornady 500 grain A-Tip Match bullet with brass made by RUAG / RWS and Alliant Reloder 50 powder, with a published velocity of about 2,850 fps. Each box holds 10 rounds.
What Goes Into the Barrett 416 Barrett 500gr A-Tip
The Hornady A-Tip Match is one of the most advanced long range bullets available. Its aluminum tip and precise, uniform construction give a very high ballistic coefficient, which helps the bullet resist wind and hold velocity at distances measured in miles rather than yards.
Barrett specifies this ammunition for bolt-action rifles only, naming the Model 99 and MRAD ELR. That matters: do not use it in semi-automatic .416 Barrett rifles unless Barrett approves it for that platform. The load is tuned for the pressures and timing of bolt guns.
RUAG / RWS brass is known for consistency, and Alliant Reloder 50 is a slow-burning powder suited to very large cases and heavy bullets. The combination is aimed at tight velocity spreads, which are critical for predictable drops at extreme distance.
Shooting the Barrett 416 Barrett 500gr A-Tip
Extreme long range ammo requires planning. Build a firing solution using real chronograph data from your rifle, and account for air density, spin drift and Coriolis effect at the distances this cartridge is designed for. Many shooters confirm data at 1,000 yards before stretching farther.
The .416 Barrett is a very large cartridge with substantial recoil and blast even in heavy rifles with muzzle brakes. Use double hearing protection and be mindful of shooters beside you. Ranges capable of safely handling this cartridge are limited, so confirm range rules first.
Because Model 99 ammunition like this is expensive and hard to find, most owners keep careful records of lot numbers and zero data. Buying enough of a single lot for a season helps maintain consistency.
