Description
The Barnes VOR-TX LR 300 PRC 208gr LRX BT is the most aerodynamically efficient load Barnes builds in 30 caliber. An all copper LRX leaves the muzzle at roughly 2860 fps carrying about 3779 ft-lbs, behind a 0.633 G1 ballistic coefficient. That BC figure is the headline here. It is genuinely high for a hunting bullet, and it is what the 300 PRC was designed around. Each box holds 20 rounds.

Barnes VOR-TX LR 300 PRC 208gr LRX BT Overview
The LRX is the long range member of the Barnes copper family, built with a deeper hollow cavity beneath the polymer tip so it opens at considerably lower impact velocities, down around 1600 fps rather than the 2000 or so a standard copper hunting bullet needs.
That design choice and this cartridge go together. There is no point pairing a very high BC bullet with a case that will carry it a long way if the bullet will not expand when it gets there. The combination is what makes a genuine 700 yard hunting load rather than a 700 yard target load.
208 Grain LRX Boat Tail Performance
At 208 grains this is the heaviest 30 caliber bullet in the Barnes hunting lineup, and the weight is what buys the ballistic coefficient. Long, heavy and boat tailed, with a secant nose profile, it holds velocity and shrugs off wind noticeably better than the 190 grain loads that were the previous standard.
Barnes machines relief grooves into the bearing surface of the Barnes VOR-TX LR 300 PRC 208gr LRX projectile. With a bullet this long bearing on the rifling those grooves do real work, lowering pressure and cutting the copper fouling a solid bullet would otherwise leave.
Why Hunters Choose 300 PRC Hunting Ammo
The 300 PRC was designed from a clean sheet around long, high ballistic coefficient bullets. The case is beltless, the shoulder is sharp, and the throat is cut long so heavy projectiles seat out of the powder column instead of intruding into it. That is the difference between it and a 300 Winchester Magnum, which was never designed with 208 grain bullets in mind.
What that means in practice for this 300 PRC hunting ammo is efficiency. It does not burn dramatically more powder than a 300 Win Mag, and it does not have the brutal barrel life of an Ultra Magnum, but it delivers more retained energy and less wind drift at 600 yards than either.
Recoil is substantial but not punishing in a rifle of appropriate weight, and most 300 PRC rifles are built heavy with a brake because the cartridge attracts shooters who intend to shoot at distance.

Range Notes For This High BC All Copper Bullet
Chronograph your rifle and build your drop chart from your own data. At the distances a 300 PRC is bought for, a 50 fps error at the muzzle is a substantial miss at 800 yards, and barrel length and throat condition both move the number.
Use the G7 figure if your ballistic solver accepts it. For a long, boat tailed bullet like this, the G7 drag model of 0.316 is a considerably better match to real world flight than the G1 number, and the difference shows up as accuracy in your solution past 500 yards.
Zero with this exact load and foul a clean barrel with a round or two first. The Barnes VOR-TX LR 300 PRC 208gr LRX stays above its expansion threshold past 800 yards from a full length barrel, which is well beyond where most hunters should be taking a shot at game.
