Description
The Barnes VOR-TX 6.5 PRC 127gr LRX BT takes the same long range copper bullet Barnes loads in the 6.5 Creedmoor and drives it 185 fps faster. It leaves the muzzle at roughly 3010 fps carrying about 2555 ft-lbs, behind a 0.468 G1 ballistic coefficient. That extra velocity is the entire reason the 6.5 PRC exists, and it translates directly into more distance before the bullet stops expanding. Each box holds 20 rounds.

Barnes VOR-TX 6.5 PRC 127gr LRX BT Overview
The LRX is the long range member of the Barnes copper family, with a deeper hollow cavity beneath the polymer tip so it opens at considerably lower impact velocities, down around 1600 fps rather than the 2000 or so a standard copper hunting bullet needs.
Pairing that design with a fast cartridge is what makes a genuine long range hunting load. High velocity extends the distance at which the bullet is still above its expansion threshold, and the LRX design lowers that threshold. The two effects compound.
127 Grain LRX Boat Tail Performance
At 127 grains this is the same projectile Barnes uses in the 6.5 Creedmoor loading, which makes the comparison clean. Identical bullet, identical ballistic coefficient, 185 fps more at the muzzle. Everything the PRC offers over the Creedmoor with this load is in that velocity number.
Barnes machines relief grooves into the bearing surface of the Barnes VOR-TX 6.5 PRC 127gr LRX projectile. The grooves reduce bore contact, which lowers pressure and cuts copper fouling, and in a case running at PRC pressures that is worth having.
Why Hunters Choose 6.5 PRC Hunting Ammo
The 6.5 PRC is essentially a magnum Creedmoor. It uses a beltless short magnum case with a sharp shoulder and a throat cut for long bullets, and it fits a short action with a magnum bolt face. For hunters who liked what the Creedmoor did but wanted another 200 yards of useful range, it is the obvious step up.
What this 6.5 PRC hunting ammo delivers is elk capability the Creedmoor does not quite have. The extra energy at 400 and 500 yards is meaningful, and the bullet is still opening reliably well past where the smaller case has given up.
The costs are modest but real. Recoil is noticeably firmer than a Creedmoor though still mild by magnum standards, barrel life is shorter, and factory ammunition is neither as cheap nor as widely stocked. Buy enough of one lot to cover practice and a season.

Range Notes For This High BC Copper Hunting Bullet
Twist rate is not an issue. Every 6.5 PRC barrel runs 1 in 8, which stabilizes a 127 grain copper bullet easily.
Use the G7 figure of 0.239 if your ballistic solver accepts it, because for a boat tailed bullet the G7 drag model matches real flight considerably better than G1 past 400 yards.
Chronograph your rifle. Published velocity comes from a test barrel, and a 22 inch PRC gives up meaningful speed to a 24 inch one. The Barnes VOR-TX 6.5 PRC 127gr LRX stays above its expansion threshold to roughly 750 yards from a full length barrel, but that number moves with your barrel and your altitude.
Lead Free Long Range Hunting Ammunition Availability
Elk and mule deer hunters who shoot at distance, hunters stepping up from a Creedmoor, and anyone hunting where non toxic projectiles are required will get the most from this lead free long range hunting ammunition. Full factory ballistics are published by Barnes Bullets.
