Description
The Barnes VOR-TX 300 Win Mag 180gr TTSX BT is the heaviest of the three Barnes copper loads for the 300 Winchester Magnum, and on the numbers it is also the best of them past about 300 yards. It leaves the muzzle at roughly 2960 fps carrying about 3503 ft-lbs, behind a 0.484 ballistic coefficient, the highest in the trio. Each box holds 20 rounds.

Barnes VOR-TX 300 Win Mag 180gr TTSX BT Overview
The projectile is machined from a solid copper billet, so there is no lead core to shed and no jacket to separate. At magnum impact speeds that is the failure mode that matters, and a monolithic bullet simply does not have it.
A polymer tip caps the hollow nose and drives rearward on impact to start expansion immediately. The nose opens into four sharp copper petals at roughly double diameter and stays attached to the shank, with weight retention close to 100 percent.
180 Grain TTSX Boat Tail Performance
Something worth knowing before you choose. Across the three standard weights muzzle energy barely moves, running 3595, 3567 and 3503 ft-lbs from lightest to heaviest. What does move is ballistic coefficient, climbing from 0.420 to 0.442 to 0.484. Because the heavier bullet holds its speed better, it overtakes both lighter loads downrange despite starting slower.
That makes the 180 grain the sensible default unless every shot you take is inside 250 yards. Barnes also machines relief grooves into the bearing surface of the projectile, reducing bore contact, lowering pressure and cutting copper fouling.
Why Hunters Choose 300 Winchester Magnum Moose Ammo
The 300 Winchester Magnum with a 180 grain bullet is the combination most guides would pick if handed one rifle for North America. Standard length magnum action, ammunition available anywhere, barrel life in the thousands of rounds, and enough bullet for anything on the continent short of the biggest bears.
What this 300 Winchester Magnum moose ammo brings is a modern projectile in that proven combination. A 180 grain lead core soft point can still shed a third of its weight on a heavy shoulder at these velocities. A copper bullet keeps essentially all of it, which on a bull moose quartering away decides whether you reach the far lung.
Recoil is firm and honest. A rifle in the eight to nine pound class with a quality pad keeps practice from becoming an endurance test, and practice is worth more than any load choice.

Range Notes For This High BC Copper Hunting Bullet
A high BC copper hunting bullet prints to a different point of impact than the lead core ammunition your rifle was probably sighted in with. Zero with this exact load, foul a clean barrel with a round or two first, then leave the scope alone.
Twist rate is not a concern. Every 300 Winchester Magnum barrel runs 1 in 10, which handles a 180 grain copper bullet without difficulty.
At 2960 fps the Barnes VOR-TX 300 Win Mag 180gr TTSX stays above reliable expansion speed past 500 yards in most barrels, and its ballistic coefficient means it is still carrying more energy there than either lighter load. Let the barrel cool between strings.
