Description
The Barnes VOR-TX 300 Win Mag 165gr TTSX BT is the middle weight of the three Barnes copper loads for the 300 Winchester Magnum, and for most hunters it is the one to buy. It leaves the muzzle at roughly 3120 fps carrying about 3567 ft-lbs of energy, behind a 0.442 ballistic coefficient. It gives up almost nothing to the 150 grain on trajectory and gains real sectional density on heavy game. Each box holds 20 rounds.

Barnes VOR-TX 300 Win Mag 165gr TTSX BT Overview
The projectile is machined from a solid copper billet, so there is no lead core to shed and no jacket to separate. At magnum impact velocities that matters a great deal, because a conventional cup and core bullet can come apart on a shoulder before reaching anything vital.
A polymer tip caps the hollow nose and drives rearward on impact to begin expansion immediately. The nose opens into four sharp copper petals at roughly double diameter and stays attached to the shank, with weight retention close to 100 percent.
165 Grain TTSX Boat Tail Performance
Of the three standard weights, this one is the best compromise. The 150 grain load starts 165 fps faster but sheds it quicker; the 180 grain penetrates deeper but shoots flatter nowhere. At 165 grains with a 0.442 ballistic coefficient you get most of the speed and most of the mass.
Barnes machines relief grooves into the bearing surface of the projectile. Those grooves reduce bore contact, lowering pressure in a case that already runs hot and cutting copper fouling from a fast solid bullet.
Why Hunters Choose 300 Winchester Magnum Elk Ammo
The 300 Winchester Magnum remains the most sensible magnum for most hunters. Standard length magnum action, reliable feeding, ammunition available anywhere, and barrel life measured in thousands of rounds rather than hundreds. Nothing about it is exotic.
Where this 300 Winchester Magnum elk ammo earns its place is as a one load answer. A 165 grain copper bullet holding all of its weight will drive through a bull elk shoulder and exit, and it still shoots flat enough that holdover rarely decides a shot inside 350 yards. If you own one magnum and hunt several species, this is the weight to standardize on.
Recoil is firm. A rifle in the eight to nine pound class with a good pad makes practice ordinary rather than an endurance test, and practice matters more than the last hundred feet per second.

Range Notes For This All Copper Big Game Bullet
An all copper big game bullet prints to a different point of impact than the lead core ammunition your rifle was probably sighted in with. Zero with this exact load, foul a clean barrel with a round or two first, then leave the scope alone.
Twist rate is not a concern. Every 300 Winchester Magnum barrel runs 1 in 10, which handles a 165 grain copper bullet without difficulty.
At 3120 fps the Barnes VOR-TX 300 Win Mag 165gr TTSX stays above reliable expansion speed past 500 yards in most barrels. Let the barrel cool between strings and store the ammunition cool and dry so your zero holds season to season.
