Description
The Barnes VOR-TX 223 Rem 55gr TSX FB is what the 223 Remington looks like when it is loaded as a hunting cartridge rather than a range cartridge. Barnes drives a solid copper Triple Shock X out of the muzzle at roughly 3240 fps carrying about 1282 ft-lbs of energy. Most 223 ammunition is built either to punch paper or to come apart on impact, and neither is what you want on a coyote or a hog. Each box holds 20 rounds.

Barnes VOR-TX 223 Rem 55gr TSX FB Overview
The projectile is machined from solid copper with a deep hollow nose and no lead core at all. There is nothing to separate from a jacket, so instead of fragmenting on the surface the bullet opens into four sharp petals at roughly double the original diameter and keeps driving forward.
Weight retention on recovered bullets runs close to 100 percent. In a cartridge with this little bullet mass to start with, keeping all of it is the difference between reaching the vitals from a bad angle and not.
55 Grain TSX Flat Base Performance
The classic 223 weight, and at 55 grains twist rate is a non issue. Every 223 and 5.56 barrel ever made will stabilize it, from a 1 in 12 vintage varmint rifle to a 1 in 7 carbine.
A flat base is the right design at this weight and distance. Barnes also machines relief grooves into the bearing surface of the projectile, which reduces bore contact, lowers pressure and cuts the copper fouling a solid bullet would otherwise leave.
Why Hunters Choose 223 Remington Hunting Ammo
Almost everyone owns a 223, and in a lot of states it is legal for deer, hogs and predators. What has held the cartridge back for hunting is ammunition rather than the rifle. Loaded with a bullet that holds together, this load covers coyotes, hogs and small deer cleanly at sensible range.
It is worth knowing the chamber distinction. This is loaded to 223 Remington pressure, which means it is safe in both a 223 Remington chamber and a 5.56 NATO chamber. The reverse is not true, so if your rifle is marked 223 Rem only, this is the correct choice and 5.56 ammunition is not.
Recoil is negligible, which matters when you are calling coyotes and want to spot your own hit through the scope and take a follow up.

Range Notes For This All Copper Varmint Bullet
An all copper varmint bullet prints to a different point of impact than the 55 grain full metal jacket most people zero with. Sight in with this exact load, foul a clean barrel with a round or two first, then leave the optic alone.
If you run this in an AR, function test a full magazine. The copper bullet profile differs from round nose practice ammunition, and while feeding is almost never an issue, confirming beats assuming before a hunt.
Copper needs velocity to open. This load leaves the muzzle fast enough that expansion is not in question at ordinary predator distances, and it stays above reliable expansion speed past 250 yards from a 16 inch barrel. A 20 inch barrel extends that.
Lead Free Predator Ammunition Availability
Predator callers, ranchers dealing with coyotes, hog hunters running an AR, and anyone hunting where non toxic projectiles are required will get the most from this lead free predator ammunition. Full factory ballistics for the Barnes VOR-TX 223 Rem 55gr TSX are published by Barnes Bullets.
