Barnes Harvest 6.5 PRC 145gr – Deadly Sierra Tipped GameKing Hunting Ammo, 2910 fps, 20 Rounds

Description

Barnes Harvest 6.5 PRC 145gr ammunition is part of the Barnes Harvest Collection, built for thin-skinned game such as deer, pronghorn and black bear. Instead of a copper bullet, Barnes loads Sierra’s Tipped GameKing, a polymer-tipped boat-tail hunting bullet known for accuracy and dependable expansion. The 145 grain bullet has a G1 ballistic coefficient of 0.597 and leaves the muzzle at a rated 2910 feet per second with about 2727 foot-pounds of energy, retaining more than 1900 foot-pounds at 300 yards according to Barnes.

Why Hunters Choose This 6.5 PRC Hunting Ammo

• 145 grain Sierra Tipped GameKing boat-tail bullet
• High G1 BC of 0.597 for a flat trajectory
• Rated 2910 fps and 2727 ft-lbs at the muzzle
• Designed for rapid expansion on thin-skinned game
• Packed 20 rounds per box, Barnes item 32401

Barnes Harvest 6.5 PRC 145gr Ballistics

• Muzzle: 2910 fps and 2727 ft-lbs
• 300 yards: 2456 fps and 1942 ft-lbs, per Barnes
• 500 yards: 2177 fps and 1526 ft-lbs, per Barnes
• G1 ballistic coefficient of 0.597

The 6.5 PRC was designed to push long, high-BC 6.5mm bullets faster than the 6.5 Creedmoor while fitting in a short action. It shoots flat, bucks the wind well and has moderate recoil for a magnum, which is why it has become a popular choice for western hunters.

Practice from field positions, build a verified drop chart and understand how wind affects your bullet at each distance before attempting longer shots at game.

Why the Tipped GameKing Works on Deer

The Sierra Tipped GameKing combines a polymer tip with a tapered jacket and lead core. The tip improves the ballistic coefficient and starts expansion, while the jacket controls how quickly the bullet opens so it can reach the vitals. On deer-sized game, that produces fast, visible results and short tracking jobs.

Because it is a lead-core bullet, it expands more readily than a copper bullet at lower velocities, which suits it to thin-skinned game at a range of distances. For elk and other large animals, many hunters prefer a bonded or copper bullet, so choose the right tool for your hunt. For most whitetail, mule deer and pronghorn hunts, this deer and elk load leans toward the deer side of that equation.

Barnes has built bullets in Mona, Utah since 1932 and pioneered the all-copper hunting bullet. Its factory ammunition is loaded to the same exacting standards as its component bullets, so you get consistent velocities and tight groups from box to box.

Whitetail, mule deer, pronghorn and black bear hunters who carry a rifle chambered in 6.5 PRC will get the most from this load. Always confirm your rifle is chambered for 6.5 PRC, verify your zero with the same lot you plan to use, and follow all federal, state and local regulations.

Store this ammunition in a cool, dry place in the original box so the lot number stays with it. Before the season or match, shoot groups at 100 yards and confirm your drops at longer distances using the Barnes ballistics above as a starting point, since your rifle’s actual velocity may differ.
