Description
The Balikli BLK 308 is a straightforward, honest bolt action hunting rifle built around the 308 Winchester cartridge and finished with a Turkish walnut stock. It is the kind of rifle that does not try to be clever: a short 20 inch barrel, a five round detachable magazine, an integral Picatinny rail milled into the receiver, and a matte black metal finish that will not flash at a deer across a field.
For a hunter who wants real wood and a threaded muzzle without paying a premium for a name, the Balikli BLK 308 is a genuinely compelling package. Balikli builds these rifles in Turkey, a country that has quietly become one of the larger firearms manufacturing centers in the world. The walnut used on the BLK is a visible part of why: Turkish walnut is dense, tight grained and takes a finish well, and it is far cheaper at the source than it is by the time it reaches a stock blank in North America.
The result is a wood stocked rifle at a price that usually buys an injection molded one.
Stock, Magazine and Handling on the Balikli BLK 308
The Turkish walnut stock has a straight comb and a recoil pad at the rear, with a modest palm swell at the grip. Recoil from a 308 in a rifle of this weight is manageable for most adult shooters and noticeably milder than the 30-06 version of the same gun, which is the main reason a lot of buyers pick this chambering over the bigger one.
Feeding comes from a five round detachable box magazine, and one magazine is included. A detachable box is a real convenience when you unload at the end of a hunt or want to carry the rifle to the truck empty without cycling live rounds through the chamber. Spare magazines for imported rifles are not always easy to find, so it is worth buying a second while you can.
The bolt is a conventional turn bolt with a short, positive throw. Nothing about the manual of arms will surprise anyone who has used a bolt gun before, which is exactly the point on a working hunting rifle.
What the Balikli BLK 308 Brings to the Field
The 20 inch barrel is the defining choice here. It is short enough to swing in a treestand or a ground blind and short enough to carry slung through thick cover, and with 308 Winchester the velocity loss against a 22 or 24 inch tube is modest. Most factory 150 grain loads still leave a 20 inch barrel somewhere around 2,700 feet per second, which is more than enough for whitetail, hogs, black bear or elk inside sensible ranges.
The muzzle is threaded 5/8×24, the standard pitch for 30 caliber rifles in the United States. That opens the door to a muzzle brake or a thread protector, and the rifle ships with the protector installed so the threads are covered until you decide what to do with them.
The receiver carries an integral Picatinny rail rather than drilled and tapped holes with a separate base. There is one fewer interface to come loose, one fewer part to lose, and mounting an optic requires only a set of rings.

Who it suits
This rifle suits the hunter who wants a wood stocked bolt gun that will actually get carried, scratched and used rather than kept in a safe. It is a strong first centerfire rifle, a sensible truck gun for a working property, and a good choice for anyone who wants a threaded barrel on a hunting rifle without stepping into a tactical chassis.

Ammunition, Optics and Transfer Notes for the Balikli BLK 308
308 Winchester is arguably the most available centerfire hunting cartridge in the country. It sits on shelves at big box stores, small town hardware counters and every gun shop in between, in bullet weights from 110 grains up to 180. For the Balikli BLK 308 that means a 150 grain soft point for deer and a 165 or 180 grain bonded bullet for elk and bear cover almost everything you would reasonably ask of the rifle. Chamber and pressure specifications for the cartridge are published by SAAMI, so any factory ammunition marked 308 Winchester is safe in this barrel.
Because the receiver has an integral Picatinny rail, glass goes on with rings alone. A 3-9×40 is the classic pairing for a 20 inch hunting rifle and keeps the package light; a 2.5-10×42 gives a little more reach without adding much weight. The 5/8×24 threads at the muzzle accept a brake if you want one, and the factory thread protector stays in place until you do. MAG5 Firearms does not sell NFA items, and a suppressor on these threads would require its own ATF approval and a separate transfer.
If you want more energy on heavy game, the same rifle is built as the Balikli BLK in 30-06 Springfield, sharing the stock, rail and thread pitch. You can browse the rest of our long guns on the MAG5 Firearms shop page. Every rifle on this site ships to a licensed dealer you choose, where you will complete a 4473 and a NICS background check before the Balikli BLK 308 goes home with you.
